Weird observation with TAAU and AMD FSR scaling methods
For me personally TAAU offers the best balance of performance and clean/clear visuals with what appears to be a native resolution, but, an oddity I've come across while testing various settings is as follows:

- I get a consistent locked 60fps with TAAU.
- I switch to AMD FSR native and click apply.
- I lose around 20 fps.
- I then switch back to TAAU and click apply.
- The frame rate does not return to my previous consistent 60, but, and instead provides similar poor performance to AMD FSR native.
- I have to restart the game to remedy this.

Any thoughts?

thoughts? game is an unoptimized UE5 game. it has dozens of small to medium performance hiccups. its part of the UE5s appeal that you can make a game happen with relatively low optimization compared to UE4. whyever you would go for that approach with a competetive pvp game is beyond me though. make it ue5 but make it run equal or better to ow or valorant.

i think the devs are fully aware but they also know the average joe will play and have fun with maximum 60 fps if the gameplay is fun and fast and whacky. thats why they prioritized other things before optimization suited for a modern pvp title.

60 fps is fine for a competitive game.

Anyway the bigger issue is that most games these days are optimised for performance and visuals while running under DLSS. So if you don't have an RTX card you don't get to play the game how the devs intended. Granted the RTX cards can now be picked up at better prices, but, still, most people will need to get a new PSU as well with the elevated power requirements just to run one of the basic RTX cards. So what what was a £200 - £300 purchase now becomes a £500 one. Ultimately the consumer got shafted by this paradigm shift that game development went through. Lazy new "talent" that just want to slap lumen and TAA on everything and then have DLSS polish it up rather than making solutions that actually work for their game and the overall vibe.

see? the devs know their target audience well. point proven.

60fps is not fine for a competitive game at all. 120 minimum. Especially when you have fast moving targets like spidey, and trying to hit him as Luna to heal him. he's on your screen for like 5 frames at the speed he's going.

As for the OPs question, the settings don't fully apply/change until you restart. Had the same thing happen.

TAAU is awesome, I can get over 400fps with 50% render scale. Echo answered the question tho, case dismissed.
I'll just say, even with a 4090, this is a 'min settings and lower monitors both to 1080p' type of game.
Its using like half my 4090 and beast CPU just to hit 236fps (240hz gsync monitor), and I would rather my room not be a loud hotbox tbh.

A performance pass or 3 are in need for sure, I would love to pump it up to like 500fps just for lower input lag, but I already peak out near 100% of my gpu and cpu if there is a lot going on on the screen so yeah it needs work

Damn, over 200fps?? I haven't seen framerate that high since Doom 2016. :D
I'm waiting on the performance passes, but this has been trademark UE5 experience with every game on that engine for the past few months, so I don't expect it to improve.

All i meant is that they are playable to a competent level at 60fps, what you're referring to are fringe case advantages seen mostly in top tier tournament play.

Also please do not derail my thread.

As for the settings not applying until restart. I don't think thats the case. TAAU and FSR have distinct visuals and I can see that it has indeed applied the TAAU scaling after i hit apply. The FPS just gets stuck at the previous performance point. Based on that theres something else going on then just a restart required.

It does say that some settings only change when you enter a new match- you could just leave practice range and go back in and I think that solves the problem.

And it depends on which hero you use, you will not rank up with Punisher or any other hitscan hero, but luckily (for some) half the weapons in this game are projectile anyway or straight up lock on so it might not matter as much.

Also depends if you are use to 144hz+ gaming or still are yet to get a gaming monitor and stuck at 60hz- Because once you go 144hz its like impossible to game at 60hz, even playing like Mercy on 60hz feels terrible, your eyeballs get use to the fluidity and it feels gross going back to 60hz

Perfect example of a reply that failed to read most of my post and understand it... Sigh.
I'm telling you that it is an objective fact that the TAAU scaling has been applied but the frame rate stays the same. This is not up for debate. The issue persists outside of match/practice until I restart the entire game. This is only an issue that exists when switching between FSR and TAAU, all other settings do not exhibit this behaviour. Instead of assuming that I'm wrong and it can't possibly be the game, try it yourself!

Also i simply wanted to bring this issue to light and see if anyone else has experienced it and ya'll come in here giving it the FPS elitism shtick... Piss off if you're not gonna contribute to the issue.

I tried it myself but didnt notice any difference because I have a 4090 and get like 450fps regardless of setting
Mister Father Dec 19, 2024 @ 7:54pm
Yeah, it's weird as hell. I end up getting 90fps. I could do 60 for good measure but that honestly looks so bad. I'm used to a bare minimum of 120fps in shooters.
