It's really hard to do poorly as Vanguard, and doing poorly as most Strategists amounts to just sitting back and mindlessly healing, which low ELO players who don't understand the game will praise even though most Strategists in this game are rewarded for dealing damage and should be peeling for the team rather than just sitting back like an old school Mercy main from Overwatch.
1. You don't build any ult charge while dead and your team is at a disadvantage
2. You take about 25-30 seconds to fully come back and group up with your team. So it runs down the timer.
3. You give the enemy team more free reign to be aggressive.
It is literally the same as overwatch in the aspect that if you want to dramatically improve that all you have to do is work on dying less.
Now that being said, there is something to be said about your team composition. If you have duelists that auto lock things like Psylocke/Magik/IronFist/Spiderman/BP you are essentially leaving your teams tanks to completely deal with any deployables (Groot walls/Penni nest/Namoor turrents/Moon knight Ankhs/etc.). I have seen a lot of people play like that and then wonder why their tanks have an issue holding a front line. I'll say the most annoying thing is not having any ranged DPS to help secure kills on people who get low and try to run.
Like I fill whatever my team needs but I can definitely tell when a DPS isn't carrying their weight. The worst ones are definitely Psylocke mains. They just miss like 85% of their shots then dash off and stealth. You don't notice they even exist on the map until they ult because they can't do the combo to actually kill people. She requires actual map knowledge and positioning which most of the people who pick her just straight up do not have right now lol.
Idk, I usually don't type anything in chat unless people make a really dumb or questionable decision and I have to hit them with the "u good homie?". Like someone ulting when we clearly lost a fight already or something.
The other night I was playing, we had 1-3-2 and we weren’t going anywhere because our one tank can’t push against 2 tanks. Time was running out so finally I said ♥♥♥♥ this and switched off support and went Cap and helped dive the backline and we won. Like, wtf. Why can’t one of yall dps just switch out for a change!??
For me, I mostly see strategist hate. People whining and complaining about not getting healed, spamming the "I need healing!" ping and raging in chat or on comms.
It's sad, yet funny, because half the time when I see this kind of rage at supports they're already dead waiting for the respawn timer. Some 2 braincell vanguard or duelist will run in and try to 1v5 and spam "I need healing!" several times, not realizing our supports (and the rest of the team is dead), before going "wow this team is trash!!!!!!!" or "where tf are the heals!!!!! garbage supports!! im out" and they then afk at spawn or just straight up d/c. (edit: my example is from ranked matches. see this kind of behavior all the time in comp.)
Tbf Mantis hits pretty hard, she may as well be a duelist that can heal others lol .. a lot of the supports actually do respectable damage. Which I like about this game.
I would say bad duelist then, even when I out kill and out assist duelist, my damage is still about half theirs to 2/3rds theirs. Most strategist can do both, but I guess if the strategist just refuses to heal anyone but themselves I guess it could skew the numbers but whats gonna die.
Duelist is the hardest role because it's a direct performance check than just standing front lines and soaking and shielding with some tanks able to CC and a healer just healing friendly way in front of her with the only push back is being a diver or bad positioning that gets you sniped. It's also why the other two roles can also do a duelist role.
For me I'd say Vanguard and Strategist are the true skill checks, without them Duelists are nothing.
