Why So Many D List Characters

On the base roster? Where are Wolverine, Captain America, DeadPool, Dr. Doom? Hello?

I suspect because a lot of people are tired of seeing the same characters in stuff over and over. And say what you will about the Marvel movies, but they made people more willing and interested in seeing new characters.

And supposedly this list was datamined from the alpha test:

Well that list definitely looks much more promising but who knows how long it would take to add most of those characters. Considering how long overwatch takes to add new character I wouldn't bet on seeing roster that size anytime soon. Like do we really want Luna Snow (still no clue who she is) in base roster over Wolverine?

Personally? Yes. As I said, some people are tired of games entirely focusing on the most popular characters instead of exploring new ones. And if the list is to be trusted, we get Wolverine too.

Was honestly a nice surprise that the roster didn't consist of a bunch of more known characters

Maybe because they wanted to do something different? I mean it is pretty much a cliche now doing the same ol starting lineup in games like this.
I think it is better starting off with some lesser characters before adding more popular ones.
Having a mix of known and lesser known is a good thing. Want them to just drop every popular character now and then over the next year or so drop lesser known characters? People would complain about that.

That being said a lot of the characters are still very popular. Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Punisher, Starlord, Spider-Man, Namor, Doctor Strange, Hela, Black panther, and Iron Man are pretty popular. There is 19 characters at launch and 10 of them are very well known.
Hell, Namor isn't the most popular character but he's one of the first Marvel characters as he released back in 1939 when Marvel first came out.
I wouldn't say anyone in the game right now outside of maybe Luna Snow is D list as Luna was made for another game originally and isn't known.
Magik isn't super known but she isn't anything close to being D.
Groot and Rocket are not D either.
Peni Parker is actually decently popular.

Honestly I disagree, Hela deserves love far and away more than some of the other choices. Peni I can take or leave but having a spider that's actually different is refreshing. Luna snow is a character I've never heard of but she is an alternative to ice man I'm here for. The main cast is of course going to get in, there's no reason they won't they are easy and well walked ground that won't add much as a whole. Right at the beginning is one of the best times for these out there picks.

Probably eating your words rn, and there are stated 10 leaked characters already, game is everything and more, this year will show us more or less how many characters to expect a year, probably faster than overwatch.

Wolverine isn't even fun to play... where is healing factor because this passive is failing hard. He is damage dealer for no reason and despite the fact that everyone wants to play a damage dealer... I didn't see him once in Ranked. Could be a way better Vanguard.
