How do these work? I'm in the 2000's for all of them but some of the people ahead of my have a lower score than me and some higher, same with the people behind me. so i'm wondering if anyone knows how the game calculates the score for each of them and where it places you?

it's because the board is not updated for all players. Instead it only move the player while active and to search the new position instead of checking each player above you one by one, they check by an X amount. If the current position checking have a score above you move up again then it's your new position.

By my eternate score it's seem the right explanation because I first have 1 points and have player below me with 1 as soon as I appear on the board. Same thing happens with when I get 2 points I was somewhere in the middle.

Also that explain why we have player with below and above your score up and down of you.

If they refresh the leader board at least once per 24 hours that will make the leader board more coherent. That refresh can be once per week.
