What you need to do is hold down the ALT key, and while holding it, use your numpad (not the row at the top) to type 228.
It's capital sigma. Incidentally, lowercase sigma is 229.
It won't work in all interfaces, like, ironically, this text box apparently.
Alternately, you can copy/paste from this Σ

ALT+### varies depending on the language of your keyboard and/or system. While I can see and copy "Σ" when I use Alt+228 this is the result: � (Which hopefully will show for you like it does for me, as a 'diamond' with an exclamation mark in it and not the symbol for sigma.)

On Windows you can run charmap.exe, or you can just use google. Searching for "Greek capital sigma" in both cases will show the letter and lets you copy it.
