I'm at DTP 45, somewhere in the high end of the e12 eternities and SN 156.

So nope, you still have a bit to go. It may be possible to get DTP 46, even, but I haven't bothered. There's also guides out there that boast about being able to take people to DTP 48, so there's also that, but guides are like meteorologists and astrologists, their credibility is not stellar.
wouldnt unity remove your dtp, why bother getting more than 46 (I'll try to get more since this game is a game.)
Since this game's just a background app to me, the "why" is "because it can be done." A waste of time for me would be to just let the game rot in a corner of my HDD for however long it takes them to add the "Unity" mechanic to the game.

Ultimately, if it's not fun for you, don't do it. That's all there is to it, really.
"Endgame" is not really a useful term in a game like this.

You are, however, at a stage where the game slows down substantially. There are no more new builds that drastically change the game. You can make it from where you are to Unity (which is not yet in the game) by switching back and forth between "farming DP" and "farming AP and eternities, with supernovas thrown in once you get to 45 DTP". The latter involves going AFK for days at a time, except for occasionally buying AP. The amount of active gameplay left in the content that currently exists is fairly small.

Do you call that "endgame"? I don't know.
I'm at DTP 47, and will easily get 48 if I swapped to my DP build - but currently on a long AP run. Stats:

DTP: 47
AP: 525k
SN 157
Eternities: 7.3e12

Currently trying for SN 158 - for no other reason than why not?

At this stage I'm basically leaving it running in the background on an AP/SN build for a few days then a quick switch to DP build to buff up.

I don't think they've detailed how unity is going to work yet. It could be a hard reset like Eternities, or it could just be "start from here and move up" like Dilation and the Dilation Tree kind of was. But yeah in terms of progress you definitely don't need 48+ DTP since the achievements for DTP only go up to 40, not much affects your builds after 41 DTP, and the rest of the achievements after that (and also, hitting Unity at 1.08e2466 EP) are achievable at around 42 DTP
I really don't know why a lot of people assume "reset" when the last two "tiers" of the game don't really reset anything. I'll be waiting to be amused by those if Unity ends up being just another "keep going and use this new mechanic to speed things up for a bit."

Probably because the last 2 tiers (Infinity and Eternity) reset things, as in unlocking your first Infinity made you lose everything you unlocked in the first part of the game (automation was the most impactful), and unlocking Eternity made you lose any Infinity upgrade you had, so it's not a huge leap of logic to suppose that Unity will make you lose any Eternity upgrade you had too :)
