Probably a dumb question but are the bigger generators worth more or is the red one just the best one?

Each generator - except for the first type - multiplies the power of the previous generator. So every generator type is "more powerful" than the last because they're all helping multiply the bonus generators give to your 'revolutions.'

Also note that every bought generator doubles that generator's output, and hence ultimately doubles your GP. So while you should prioritize new generators, it's always worth buying generators that you can easily afford.
