So, is it normal for an AP build to take several hours to get back to where it can farm?
I'm on DTP 42 right now, been cycling Animal+Eternity and Dilation builds for a while (Supernova 156 just isn't happening right now,) and whenever I go for Dilation, I get many Dilation upgrade levels done in a matter of minutes, but when I go back to AP farming, it take two or three hours for it to get back to the point where it actually adds anything.

Is there a weird lab upgrade distribution I'm not seeing that works better than Gen/Common 1:1 and or full Common? Or is it just meant to be a "come back next Monday and see if it got somewhere" type of idle progression speed?

That's normal. Around DTP46 it'll take something like a full day to start earning new AP.
Guess I finally found the "idle" part of the game then.

Not that it matters, I 'play' idle games (and some factory games) as background apps, only checking them every few hours when progression slows down to a crawl.
For whatever reason, around DTP 40 it hits a progression wall. Instead of taking minutes to maybe an hour to advance, it instantly jumps up to being days of waiting to get one more point. Eternities are far too slow and AP, Lab, and Nova all take a day or two of setup before they do literally anything for you. This is the kind of thing the achievements would have helped with in the early game, but those don't do crap fro you in the late game. Is this just the Dev trying to stall players from "finishing" the game before it's ready for the next stage?
Maybe I shouldn't have boasted about how it took less than two months to finish the game pre-update. ;)
At that point there are no more DT Upgrades that give a boost AP gaining

I feel like the DP40 achievement should say something about a massive slow down or wall rather than not needing to buy the entire tree (I think most players will have figured THAT out by this point).

Apart from the clue that your next DTP point goes from needing e20 more DP to *e120* more, some confirmation that everything is going to take heaps longer now regardless of what you do would be helpful.

I've messed with a lot of things in hopes anything reduces either the time needed to farm APs, or the need to farm APs, but nope. full common exp is still the one lab upgrade spread that gets me to whatever I want to get in the shortest time.

When you get to DTP 44ish, it will take almost an entire DAY to get back to the AP buying point in runs.

Reading threads like this is the reason I'm planning to do very long runs to get these last few achievements. I'm currently grinding up from 370k AP to 400k AP in a single run because I know it will be faster than switching over at 390k to get my next DTP and then switching back to push for 400k.
yeah the AP farm runs take time. I reached unity with 157 supernovas and around 475k AP.

It's crazy how much more difficult the last five achievements are than everything else that came before them.

I feel like I've hit a wall in progression, and completing EC's feels like it takes multiple days. Am I doing something wrong or is this just how it is?
Not enough information there. You could have bad automation setup, you could have too few infinities or eternities, you could be using a subpar spread of animals... Also, 1:4 may not be the best, I remember using 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 at different times, progressively heading to what I use nowadays (since everything else doesn't just "feel" slower, it is actually slower in testing,) which is full common exponent.
