This is not that simple and there is not single answer. You have to use what works for you and you will change that number based on you progress/strenght.
So the right answer could be 10, 100, 1000, 1e6 or 42. Or some other number.
For me, sitting at a four-DIgit scientific exponent Eternities as my next gOal (e1345 righT now,) IP automation might as well not exist, since infinity points reach a five-digits figure a split second after Eternity starts, thanks to a mid-game upgrade that lets you gain IPs without resetting Infinity, and boosters in the "billions of times" to IP gain.
