How Does Cooking Work?

Cooked a couple of meals so far, but I don't actually understand how you make things sizzle. I've tried sliding them around the pan quickly, slowly, and not at all, and I don't really understand what triggers the sizzling. Once you get timed elements like the cigarettes involved, I've been really struggling to make progress.

You gotta keep that pan moving, and when it is inevitably time to flip. Gently get your ingredients to either side of the pan and quickly but lightly, flick your wrist (in game)

if you're on mouse I think it's seems a bit easier than using a controller.

if you're moving the pan at all, even just a little bit, it sizzles. i like to do small circles

Yeah, this entire flicking thing is stopping me. I got the first egg, and the egg and cigarette with no issue. I have not flipped a single thing successfully since then. I have no idea what I am doing wrong... I am moving the stuff to one side, releasing the trigger button and flicking the stick. It all goes everywhere.
