How do I get to 2 stars?

Ok I'm a new player. I have won all three races and unlocked the foal training and the therapy stuff. I have built the hose thing in the stable and bought and read all the level 1 books. I only have my starter horse but she has all 3 golden horseshoes.
Every thing says it needs to be 2 stars to unlock but I can't seem to work out how to get the 2nd star.
I've been trained my horse to max (stone hills race (can't find it, may be in a locked area)) and been training foals and doing therapy sessions to earn bucket loads of money. But I can't seem to get my 2nd star rank.
any help or hints would be appreciated.

Nvm, I bought a 2nd horse with the money I was saving and that seems to have put me into the 2nd star.
