Original Campaign & Mask of the Betrayer conversation checks
Does it really matter if you have a conversation skill (Bluff, Diplomacy or Intimidate) in the campaigns?
I'm considering playing a Ranger and my conversation checks would mediocre at best.

Thanks in advance!

It does/doesn't matter, depending on how you play. Diplomacy is the most used, followed by Bluff and then Intimidate. They make certain areas a whole lot easier and open up additional avenues etc. There is one specific event in the OC where it is very conversation heavy - and not having ranks in one of them will net you a "bad ending" to the quest.

Not to say they are essential by any means, but I never run through the campaign without maxing one of them.

Depending on how you are playing your Ranger, you could do a dip into another class (with Able Learner) to get skill access.

Ah, yes, Able Learner is a very good idea. Thanks for reminding me of it! (BTW, feel free to use spoilers, I've completed the game already, but as a Bard, so conversations weren't a problem, really.)
All three of those are used very, very often in all official NWN 2 campaigns. I played as a Ranger on my second playthrough of both the OC and MotB (the same character in both) so I knew I wasn't going to be persuading people. He was instead a very violent character. You'll be able to use Wisdom in dialogue occasionally, but even then yours might not be high enough for them to actually appear, and Wisdom prompts aren't all that common.

I think I'm going for a Scout/Ranger with Able Learner. (I'm using Kaedrin's excellent pack.)

One of my charater had a 12 charisma and zero skill into diplomacy, intimidition or bluff.
And he still won 90% of the diplomacy, intimidation and bluff checks.

Wow, the game is way too generous if that's true. Sadly I think the only way to change that is through the unstable SDK. For role-playing purposes I would never bother using any conversation skill that I don't focus on.

It's not true.

What's not true?
I believe he is referring to Malaficus's post.

Yes, I was indeed referring to Malaficus's post - That 90% of convo checks can be done with no skill and 12 CHA. You may be able to do 20-30% if you are lucky (even that may be a little too ambitious)... but nowhere near the amount claimed.

Thankfully I'm playing a Fighter and can grab Able Learner while shoving all my skill points into Diplomacy fairly quickly. :3
