i have finish NWN2 in solo in max difficulty, he isn't hard :/
do you have ever play the Divinity, Sekiro or Darksouls games ???
NWN is not so hard beside these games
i reached about level 9 or so, and i remember there was this boss fight and he is super powerful, he kills my henchman in like 2 shots and then kills me, hes a mage and using stone skin and spam fireballs. I couldnt go back becauase the area was a locked area, you cant recall to town from there, and you couldnt go back so i was stuck.
I came to the forums and they said that the game is not designed to be played solo.
(im talking about NWN enhanced edition)
A Ranger in NWN is really just a gimped Fighter with a few low level spells, they are not a particularly great class.
Is there a particular direction/focus you want to achieve with him?
i remember years ago, when NWN just came out i played on this large multiplayer server called "Lands of Lore", and rengers were really great, sure they had a lot of epic equipment and pretty much everybody had a neckless that adds constant "haste" buff, but still, hoped to remake it as i know there is in fact a neckless somewhere in the game that gives constant haste buff
Your best tactic here sounds like it would be to simply disable and kill that spellcaster as quickly as possible, because as soon as it starts throwing spells at you, you will be finished.
You could use spell resistance, haste, and cats grace potions to aid you in the fight. Depending on your stealth score, you may be able to hide before the fight and then sneak in so your Orc takes the initial barrage then you take him out fast. Honestly, in a game like NWN there are so many options and you may have to get a bit more tactical for the fight if your character is lacking.
So you are using a Longbow? What armour do you have and what are your character ability stats, including AB and AC?
Finally, if you want to take a look at some good builds, check out our character build forum for ideas. There are several archers on there that would all do a better job than a standard Ranger: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/NWN-Players/discussions/1/
Hope this helps and good luck!

just build a warlock and use the Hideous Toggle ability. It recasts the ability (like it should) for you automatically. Very powerful. Add the paladin's resistance. Maybe later throw in some weapon master to increase the crit range. Grab a two hander and you'll take everything out.
it requires though good knowledge of the 3.5 ruleset and its quirks.
