NWN2 complete - any way to separate characters?

I'm in the Tomb of (something), and there are a couple of places where it seems obvious that I'm supposed to separate one character off, to move separately, but I can't find any way to do this... it almost looks like Strategy Mode should do this, but it doesn't actually do anything. What am I missing??

Later: well, I found *one* way, setting them all in puppet mode, which turns off AI. Is there any other way?? Am I supposed to be able to use Strategy mode to control them??

turn the ai on/off as needed. You can run through it with just one character if you like.
