Game doesn't work

When I try to launch the game it comes up with a dialog box saying "device lost" and closes the game. How can I fix this?

Years later and I have the same problem. I tried investigating it to no avail. I thought it might be a DirectX problem, but no matter which old versions I installed and forced the game to run on fixed the problem. There is no known fix for this game at the moment, and there isn't exactly a large enough community around it to discover one.
