Complaining that cricket is not baseball would be nonsensical.
This game is a rogue-like deck builder where the adversaries are psychological challenges represented by physical events, you aren't really battling the car honking its horn behind you, you're fighting yourself and your reaction to the event where "You" are an angsty uncertain young adult facing a confusing world with rules and expectations and an uncertain future.
There are plenty of driving sims out there where you can just drive a bus, or a truck, or a taxi, and relax without the constraints of adversarial gameplay, but this game isn't that. This game is a deckbuilder, with a clever and novel setting and narrative laid on top of it.
It is very much in the vein of Mille Bornes, a french card game about racing 1000 miles will dealing with speed limits, punctures, and other hazards by playing cards to counter and overcome them.
It's not a perfect game by any means, but it is still a decent satisfying game.
This is a game that is shaped like itself.
The central complaint is about the core, signature gameplay (the rogue-like deck builder). Many people playing this game seem to be enjoying... Because they like the rogue-like deck builder genre.
And there are people who are playing it who are NOT enjoying it... Because they don't like the rogue-like deck builder genre...?
So, I must assume they're here for the theme (which is awesome), but hate the gameplay (which is fine, to each their own). The good news is that other games in different genres exist that have this theme.
But, yeah, this game, as far as general quality of games go, is fine. A game is not "horrible" on the basis that there is someone who doesn't like the genre that the theme is wrapped around.
And, to preempt, I think it would be a wild stretch to claim false advertising and bamboozlement.
You can see the gameplay on YouTube, you can read the description on the store page, reviews are a thing (the Most Helpful review on the store page describes it as similar to the Oregon Trail in the first paragraph).
Worst case scenario, you can refund it. You will know within the first two hours of gameplay if you will like it or not.
It's a very good game.
Not everyone will like it, because people have different interests.
Both of those statements can be true. It's weird that I feel the need to announce this obvious thing.
Play the good games you want to play. Don't play the good games you don't want to play, no one is making you.
It isn't really explained but the general idea is that the threats are more internal than they are external. It's about you mentally, emotionally, and physically dealing with a situation.
I think the biggest problem is not the mechanics themselves, but the lack of variety in events and the limited pool of items and skills. Perhaps it would work better as an auto-battler, where your equipment as represented by items and vehicle upgrades "fight" for you, and your goal is to come up with optimal setups to over come progressively tougher enemies/events. Think something like the Bizarre, but maintaining the current theme and graphical setting.
Game just isn't for you OP. Don't play if you don't like it, but don't come here complaining.
Oh, nevermind. You're one of them
Whoops. There's your Mom. Your Hot Pockets are ready.
Most important point made here.
Appreciating something for what it is is the point of anything being what they are.
Once OP gets to enjoy the game you might find things that can be added and the culture, or community gets to flourish. Otherwise, posts like these try to turn someone else's gold into trash heap, which isn't fair.
This attitude aside, I think this game has a lot of potential for how it appeals to people. There definitely is room for added modes and even a chill driving + music sim. Hopefully with good traction and a following, the devs are response and add more good content.
I learned you could do this on my fourth playthrough! xD
i was honestly disapointed honking at cows, sheeps, birds and deer didn't do anything but I did figure out I could upsell tires and made 1000$ in the first week
I also suped up my charger to have giga speed w/good driving, now i just need to pick up the convict for extra giga speed
Honestly, the title of this thread went a completely different direction than I thought it would. This game made me feeling something. Nostalgia for the wanderlust of youth; when I would aimlessly drive with my friends, listening to good music and having good conversation and taking in the sights.
I don't think this game is for you and that is ok.
