Turn based?
// -EDIT- //
I got all the answers I needed, thanks to everyone who took the time to type a reply. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm interested in playing a game that includes a mechanic that can make it something other than a pure turn based game. It's just a matter of personal taste. I'm just glad I discovered it early. I could have played 5 hours, then found out about it. I'll think about it, but !'ll probably end up refunding in a few days. Not that it's a bad game. It's just not what I expected from reading the store page's description.
// -END OF EDIT- //

The game's description says turn based. However, I'm just 2-3 road events in and it does NOT feel like it's really turn based. I get depleting meters that have negative consequences when they get empty after only a few seconds. Then they start depleting again, more bad consequences, etc.

Is it that I don't understand something?

I was looking for a very chill, real turn based game but it does feel like it at all. :steamsad:

Just discovered this myself. Not interested in trying to beat a timer. Refunded after 30min. Will purchase again if it has an option to turn off the timer.
I had to go double check, I thought maybe I misread the first time, but the store page description goes like this:

Solve challenges on the road using a unique turn-based ‘combat’ system, using your own skills and whatever’s lying around in the glovebox to make it through.

I guess, after playing for 30 min like I did, that I could interpret it as "real time turn based". You have quick running clock to play each "turn", but that's a very loose interpretation of turn based. It's even more surprising in what's described as a RPG. I was not expecting this at all.

I went to watch a YT vid of someone playing the game.

No idea what's going on, but that guy's meter is not depleting at all. He could take 30 minute to make a decision where I only had 10-20 sec, at most.

That probably was it.
That drunk status seemed to never go away. Any tips about that?

And where's the sleep button?

It's the pillow with ZZZs when you click on your car, between the trunk and the journal. Staying at a motel, working, or reading books also pass the time. And, of course, driving.

Also, I discovered statuses that decay over time have a little border that depletes as time goes by. It's very subtle, but you can see it shrinking while driving.

Yeah, driving drunk is like time-trial mode, you have like 5-10 seconds to do something, or else it will act like you just passed your turn, which can get really brutal. Otherwise, it's just a straight-up turn-based game, haven't ran into any time limits outside of when I had the drunk status.
Like the others said, it only has a timer if you're drunk. It does take a while to go away, unless you rest from the car menu. You'll wake up with a headache, so take some aspirin.

Thanks a lot for the detailed answer.

there is no timer. you can add one if you drive drunk but standard gameplay has no timer

After thinking about it for a few days, I decided to not refund the game. I thought at worst just don't drink and drive, keep it turn based, everything should be fine. And it is fine.

My first 20 minutes were just horrible. Drank a beer after the first road event because why not, got instantly pulled by a cop. No skills unlocked, no car upgrades, no passengers, no knowledge of the game, I was screwed.

It's weird that a turn based game has a mechanic that turns it into something else. It would be so simple to have the drunk status have a bad effect, something like the matchboxes maybe, or a similar effect that makes skills less efficient.

Anyway. I kept playing. The game is fun. I even tried the drink and drive thing again but with skill points spent, a decent car, etc. It was not the nightmare it was the first time. I'd much prefer if it always remained turn based, drunk or not, but at least you can prepare for it with basic knowledge of the game.

Cheers! ;)
