This topic looks like your best bet to find a solution for what you are looking for:

There is a mod that allows you to choose non standard resolutions here;
http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/
It is down the bottom left hand side of the screen.
It also allows you to zoom out a lot further.
My monitor has a resolution of 1920x1080. I chose 1600x900 as it makes the auto map about a third of the screen rather than the default half.

I had the same issue as it set the resolution to the highest possible and it chopped off the status menu. 800x600 is how I've played it and it looks great!
what i did, open steam, find summoner in library, right click summoner, click properties, click set launch options, type in -h 1920 -w1080 or w/e resolution you want. leaves a little bit of dark boxes due to aspect ratio, but now my mouse moves same speed as native res

1. Install nGlide.
2. Set the nGlide resolution to the one you want.
3. Set the Glide mode in the game launcher settings.
4. Set the ingame resolution in the game launcher settings to whatever you want, depending on the desired UI size. Personally, I prefer 800x600.

Keep in mind the original aspect ratio of the game is 4:3 so the UI will be stretched to fit the screen while the 3D graphics will appear just fine.

You're welcome.
