Have you had any success with the models yet? I have a lot of nostalgia for this game, but my brother won't play it because its graphics are so dated that he can't look at it like we used to. Such a great story and great concept art in this game!

You can try remastering it shader-wise a little using a wrapper like dgvoodoo in combination with sweetfx or such!

Pretty sure you aren't ever going to be able to access the .VIM and .VBM files. From the looks of it, they're Volition's proprietary format and you aren't gonna be able to decode them without direct help from Volition.

It's kinda funny how people call this a discovery. Descent Mod Manager was widely know tool when the Summoner's servers were still active and people were playing online. I remember I was messing with it myself but was way too young to understand more than just listening to the sounds. For the VIM and VMB files maybe it's like withe the .ai (Adobe Ilustrator) files - they are simply .pdf files "disguised" as different file format. Maybe changing the extension to one that was used back in the day will help?

It's a Red Faction modding ToolKit. Red Faction and Summoner are sharing many of the file formats so maybe it'll help in some way.

I'm dying to extract 3D models out of this game.
How did you manage to replace the katana with a loaf of bread?

The Loaf was already in the game. I have switched the katana path with that of the loaves. I haven't had much success with custom models/extracting, yet. :(

To be honest, I think it would be easier and faster to create a remake using Unity or Unreal Engine. Summoner's engine is old and I don't think we can squeeze anything impressive out of it. I was asking THQ about remake few years ago and they said that they don't have plans for remake and I think this won't change at all.

This kind of work has allowed me to make significant mods to the game which (I think) improve balance and flow, but I sadly am also adding bugs.
Specifically, I've added a "Dagger of Concussion" that allows Flece to actually do blunt damage, so she doesn't become totally useless late in the game. It works great. I even gave it the graphic and model for the blade of Tarun, which looks awesome.
But when I open the inventory tab in-game, and get info on it, the image area is blank. Anyone know specifically how to fix that? It isn't a functional bug, but stuff like that drives me NUTS.
FWIW I have also rebalanced the armors so they progress better, making the chainmail weaker and improving the Orenian armors so they are an actual step up, among other differences.
