What do the flare colours mean?
I couldn't find anything in the manual about this - and I've never seen another game that simulated them. I see flares getting sent up by both sides, does anybody know what the colours mean?

I'm guessing that Green means "start attack" as I noticed the enemy does seem to send them up before attacking. I'd guess Red means stop then, but not seen this confirmed. I've also seen orange and a lot of just plain black smoke flares sent up.

BTW Great game - I admit I hardly understand all what's happening! But the tactical level is so very playable and throws up some amazing battles.

From what I've noticed- green is the attack flare, red is retreat and I think the black smoke flare is for enemy spotted. At night they shoot off illumination flares instead of black smoke when the enemy is spotted or heard.

I'm only guessing about orange, but I think it means tanks are also present with spotted enemy forces.

I've never seen any documentation explaining the different colored flares either. The AI handles all this, the player has no control really as to what flares the leaders shoot off or when. It's more like eye candy to grab your attention to certain areas.

I always forget what orange is. And its been stated a bunch of times by the Dev's. :)

Thanks. Orange is the most confusing, it could well be linked to spotting tanks. I assume both sides use the same colours? And they only use them when out of radio contact?

It's great that the AI does all this by itself, without having to micromanage. Dug in on a deathly quiet battlefield, then seeing the enemy put a green flare up and you know the attack is about to start...really adds to the atmosphere.
Yes, both sides use same colors and the general assumption is the flares are used to communicate orders and sightings to units out of normal command and control range.

I also understand that the purple flare which I never see is what the air spotters use during airstrikes.

I like the added immersion the flares add and it does help to focus your camera attention to areas that the action in is taking place in, especially for players like me who tend to play the game with the camera used mainly at ground level.

Yes purple usually when the player sets a priority target to the air spotter. Although I can not say that the planes will actually attack that target...lol.

From what I know. For the Scout Regiment Green means formation changes. Red means that people have spotted titans. And black means that someone found a abnormal titan. I don’t really know what orange or purple means.

I remember reading Andrey explaining the smoke colors. Maybe at the Mius forum or Graviteam forum. Can't remember which.
