Always Online?
Is it necessary to be online to play it or is it enough to log in once?

Just one Online Login. Ubisoft hasn’t removed their pesky longer even though its clear as day we don’t want it

Okay. Update. The Game cant play Offline. You must Log in the Ubi Konto.
Lies above.

Yeah, if the intention is that you need to be online when you run it first, it does not behave that way. Can we get a developer in here to comment if this is a bug or a feature? I filed a support ticket with Steam. I'm past my 2 hour mark, but I'll be asking for a refund if this is the intended functionality, because the store page is incorrect saying you only need it for first-time setup.

I had a bug (?) where, after playing a couple of times, I went to launch the game and it said it couldn't log in. I launched Ubi Connect separately and it showed a login prompt. I had to go look up my credentials, which was weird. When I first bought the game on launch day, Ubi Connect was automatically installed, launched, and signed-into, all via Steam, and all without my Ubi password. Something caused it to sign out, but once I launched it on its own and signed in, I was able to play this game again. So I guess, if you're having Ubi login/connection issues, try running Connect by itself to make sure it's logged in correctly.

Though, I don't have the game. You can just do a simple test. Disconnect from the internet, then run the game. Can you actually play it without internet connection?

You can, but not if you do it like that. You have to switch Steam to offline mode.

It's quite simple.
If you go offline while playing, the game continues. If you want to start it from offline mode, it won't work. It requires an online connection to start it.

This is not stated anywhere on the Steam page. It's practically cheating.

I also realized this morning that you can't start the game in offline mode on the Steam Deck. Really disappointing but I guess that shouldn't surprise me from Ubisoft.

I'll try booting the game before taking it offline tonight and see if that works.

You have to be online once, but then after that, you need to go to the Steam menu and set all of Steam to be in "offline mode". You can't just turn off wi-fi. It works. I've done it.

That didn't work for me. Opened the game, verified it worked, closed the game, turned on offline mode, relaunched, got a login screen in Uplay Connect.

This sounds like what Thw0rted ran into in this thread. Try what they did.
