Maybe they need a tax write-off project?

For something that's been out for several months?

Trying to work out why a major software would deliberately cripple their own software - but only for paying customers is, at best, an exercise in futility.

They already cripple their with another software called uplay/ubisoft connect that they cannot even maintain properly for their older games.

I assumed this might have Denuvo. Great reason to save my money on a game I probably would've enjoyed.

you people make me laugh... game protections have been around since 1995 when pc gaming became a thing. seriously ?

@bloodraven43 The vast majority of games I buy don't have DRM such as indie games. Quite a few I get from GoG and Humble Bundle. Those also don't have DRM either including The Witcher 3.

So when you say this, it sounds strange. I'm upset about DRM, but that's not my main issue: it's the Denuvo software itself. I'm not installing a rootkit on my PC. It allows bad actors to do whatever they want. It's like knowingly installing a virus.

I know DRM existed in the past, but the games I purchased only had a CD-key. Further back, none of my floppy games had any sort of copy protection. Only some high-profile games had that.
