That creepy "fog"

I don't know if it had already been posted yet but ... You know that moment in the starter area, when everything goes dark and there's that stressful music, and there's this dark "fog" ? How do you call this phenomenon, what is it actually supposed to be ?! It's creeping me out !

It's teh famous blob, for some reason with this update it comes at the starting area and the three trees area quite early, so go up to your den when you hear that music, just run there and your cubs will catch up.

I'm wondering this too, if there's any Word of God on what it is. The general consensus appears to be that it's nighttime coming on, but there's no stars and it's not the same kind of darkness as the night at the beginning and end of the game. I've got three theories: It's smoke from a distant forest fire, it's human-scent (which would unnerve wild animals), or the game has low-fantasy elements and it's some malevolent spirit/being/conscious/whatever. I personally find the fact that it seethes and moves like it's alive to be really creepy, especially when it "retreats" all ooze-like. Guh.

It is very creep and don't ever go near it that was my mistake. And if you get caught in it run as fast as you can and call for your cubs constantly.

Oh I always rushed to my shelter as fast as I can when I hear that music, first I thought it was wolves or something. And when I saw this dark thing, I knew it would be a bad idea to touch it ^^"

But I wonder what's that all about. Apparently, for what I've seen about your answers, it can be :
- Presence of humans
- Smoke/miasm
- Some kind of "demonish presence"

All of these seem legit but yet, it's funny to see that everybody has his own interpretation - it shows how mysterious it is, I think it's more than a dark smoke. I'm really curious about it ...

i think is fog, only occour in spring/autumn, mess with your eye sigh/smell
If you never see fog coming, you dont know how scary is.

I think in the home area, it's a fire. And in the lake area, it's a flood.

For what I've seen in your video, it looks like an avalanch, I don't think it's the same thing in the game - but it's true that it looks like it ! :o

Basically it's a mudslide / mudflow caused by the earthquake. In fact, they're quite common in Kamchatka, but this one was uncommonly massive and destructive. But you're right, I'm also not a fan of literal interpretations :)

It's just that about the mudslide, basically, it's some earth covering everything for what I understood (I don't have that kind of things where I life so hard to tell), and I don't think it's supposed to disappear like IG ? :/

I don't just have a theory: I believe it to be true with how much evidence I have for it ^.^ I believe that this wall of "fog" is actually a wolf pack. Since this is the starter area, And there are more hills there (and prey) than any other area, it would make sense for the creators to put that there in order to tell everyone thats where he wolves are. I know because once i was curious about this 'fog' so i walked into it. Soon after, i heard howls and one of my cubs was killed by wolves. I made a new family tree after that XD
