Am I missing something?
I was looking forward to this game. I loved the original Shelter and lynxes are amazingly beautiful animals. But sadly this game has been a dissapointment so far. I really appreciate all the love and efforts from Might and Delight (the lynxes are very cute and the graphics are better than before) but the original Shelter was a lot better in my opinion.

I have to say I have only played the game for less than three hours (I haven't beat the game yet). The gameplay so far is boring and repetitive. No predators or hazards so far, only hunting, feeding the cubs and walking. I find the map confusing ('M' on the keyboard) and no idea if I'm suppose to go somewhere. I feel like there is no direction and I find myself lost, walking around not knowing what I have to do to continue the story. And when I go somewhere It's difficult to tell if I have been there before (all places look the same).

Sometimes kittens can get lost even when they are not starving (just like they aren't fast enough and couldn't find their mother, maybe a pathing issue) and a starving kitten can be impossible to find if he stop moving and lie down around tall grass.

Questions and some SPOILERS below:

- I just want to beat the game but I don't know what to do for that. I'm sure I'm missing something, It shouldn't take so long. My cubs have already grown up and go away, and mother lynx has been alone for more than one hour just walking around with nothing else to do. Where should I go? What should I do? It's very boring to just walk around on this big map.

To answer your question: Once your cubs have gone away you go back to your den to get to the ending C: There's actually a hint that pops up that says something along the lines of: "Alone and weary Mother Lynx returned to her den" though if your not looking at it as a que it can be easily missed/mistaken as just flavor text.

Usually if I have a kitten fall in tall grass I step back, sniff-out their general location/kitten symbol, and go over to the area hitting the left click until I pick them up to move them to a more visible location; hope that helps! Though I am afraid the 'fun' of the game for me is the wandering itself ^^; One thing that really helps me get my bearings is sniffing to see where the Shelter/Tree Symbol is in relation to where I am on the map, so I know which direction I haven't explored in yet and which way to go to, to get to the different areas as well.

Thank you very much! You really help. The den was the tree symbol, right? I think I discovered the kitten symbol when they were more grown up, but I didn't notice that I could find them that way when they were little. I had a starving cub in tall grass and I heard him wailing but couldn't find him. I will try finding him like you did the next time. Thanks.

Indeedy the den is the Tree Symbol~ Oh, and make sure to go into the little nook where the cubs were originally, not just near the tree itself! Once you go inside the ending 'level' should start up C: Glad to know my comment helped! ^w^

It sounds like you figured out how to end the game and start the tree all over so I can reply to the other parts. The map isn't a real map because it would take away from the whole realistic nature aspect of the game. I think they meant it just to be a general reminder. There's a huge tree on a mound that is marked just as a tree on the map, animals might remember locations and certainly know smells but obviously wouldn't have coordinates like a compass.

It does make the map very simple and strange, but it was intended that way. I'd recommend trying another play through and trying to do things different this time, cross the lake when it freezes over in winter, find something new to hunt. Check out the swamp if you can find it.

When you wander, do you do it without a den? I left the den to explore, made it to the river by staying out all night and then crossed and never spent another night in the den. I think we only stayed in the den the first two nights. The map baffles me a bit too

The only thing I would really change about the map, if I could, would be a 'facing' issue. I wish I could tell which way my lynx was facing on the map screen. If they could scent out the direction they should know if they're facing towards home or away from it.

There's definitely predators. I just had a cub get eaten by wolves.

Yes there are, but the wolves are only in one place (or a few, not sure) and the map is quite big. A lot of people have finished the game without seeing any wolves (only when pregnant) and I have been lost running a lot around the map for more than one hour and I have not seen any wolves.

You can beat the game without moving from the same place and there's no good reason to move at all (You may see deers, some frogs and wolves, but that's all), the places looks pretty much the same everywhere. Nothing interesting to go and see. But even if you go exploring the map you may not see any wolves.

Totally agree. That's why I was saying that the map was confusing, I wasn't complaining about the design. Not seeing which way my lynx was facing make the map very difficult to use.

I finished the game and the ending was dissapointing, it could be a lot more emotional and heart-touching.

I actually felt the same way especially my last time playing through the game and I entirely forgot to mention this to M&D. Going to go post it in the patch ideas thread and hopefully they can include it. Seems like it'd be a very small amount of code.

I'm glad other people agree with me on the facing issue. :D

I've never really used the map despite it being there. I just remember where things are by memory. It's more fun for me. Besides, it's not really needed when you can just sniff where the maps are.

I'm having an issue as well. I've been playing for an hour and a half and mine just aren't growing up. However, I'm growing really bored of catching rabbits and have no clue what to do...

I believe the cubs grow up after a long time without doing anything in particular (you only have to feed them). It's really boring or at least for me it was, just catching rabbits over and over, but they will eventually grow up.

Yes, I would say the first one was a lot better. Shelter 2 is very boring and repetitive and I felt lost while playing it. It has no story at all. You only walk around and feed your cubs until they grow older and that's it.

The first Shelter is a linear game where you go forward from one point to another (so you will probably not get lost) through different scenarios. There are environmental hazards that will make it difficult to keep you cubs alive and they can die of starvation as well. It's an emotional journey but keep in mind it is very short, about an hour of gameplay, so I would not pay full price for it.
