Deer Problems

So, I was looking for some deer, but currently I can only find them in the snowflake area, and more than once I was hunting a deer and wolves appeared and killed my cubs. Is there anywhere else I can find deer? If so, where?

The Lake (3 trees symbol) has deer herds as well as one small herd near the river in the Mountains area.

Deer spawn in the Tundra, Lake, and Mountains areas. Never appear in the Main/Den area, though.

Deer tend to spawn near water sources, I've found them in the mountains, tundra, triple tree/lake area, and I believe I saw a herd of them in the main area but that might just be faulty memory.
