Feedback from a Settlers 3 and 4 Veteran
I want to provide a different perspective to the "this is not a settlers game" narrative. I am a well experienced Settlers 3 and Settlers 4 player, I have played these games extensively over the last years, participated (also won) in tournaments and consider myself a very big fan of the settlers franchise.

I almost didn't give TS:NA a chance because of the bad reputation and rumors about it .. but I am very glad I did! I enjoy this game a lot, been playing it for a few months now, also participated (and won) in a tournament. And I would like to remind everyone to not just blindly repeat what you are told, but to form an opinion on your own.

Yes, this game is different to others from the franchise. If you are the kind of player, who wants to have a chill building experience after a tough day of work, and just want to enjoy a beautiful and nicely crafted campaign .. then this game is probably not for you. The AI is disappointing and the campaign very short.

BUT: if you enjoy multiplayer PvP matches, with lots of dynamics, strategic gameplay, some RTS sprinkled into it, then this game is definitely worth a try!

People - who I can only assume to either not have played the game or not understood it well - always complain about the shallow economic aspect in this game. Which may be not as fleshed out as in e.g. settlers 4, but still allows for lots of economic variety and optimisation through the boosting mechanic, the research in the academy and the trading at the harbour. Anyone who thinks it's "too simple": I dare you to challenge me :D

Other people hate against this game because of the development disaster. Yes, the communication with the community was not the best and the technical state at release was catastrophic. But this is in the past now, the game runs stable most of the time, and major bugs have been fixed (one of them today, thank god!). Today they provided the third big content update, which brings quite a few interesting mechanics to the table, that will increase the dynamics in this game even further.

My conclusion: I enjoy this game a lot and I can only recommend everyone to try it out themselves and not be influenced by all the (mostly emotional and non-objective) negative feedback.

Thank you for a well thought review. Not a lot of that going on these days, whether it be a positive or negative review.
