I'm not claiming it's the best way but it works for me and I have screenshots.

everyone in here knows, Chlooobo even mentioned it in her first sentence!
everyone else realized it and helped (or like me at least tried to help).
did it at least work out for you? did you feel better after posting?
It's not a perfect setup. It does mean that an inventor ant will expire of old age every once in a while before being combine, and I've had it skip a turn because an *extremely* Old Drone triggered the timer gate and then immediately expired before climbing in. But it mostly seems to work pretty well. I've been running at Queen Level 13, and can support feeding in enough ants to complete a Lesser Gyne Cocoon every ten minutes, which is why I picked that value. Just set the timer to whatever works so that you don't have a bunch of Princess Ants waiting to go, or big gaps in between completed Lesser Gynes.
I also use Timer Gates to control how many Pod Workers are being made for the cocoon. Since their "old" state doesn't last very long before they turn into Pod Worker (Empty,) it's easier for me to send them straight in without trying to use their lifespan first. For the ones being sent to the Gyne Cocoon, I have an assember with a timer gate that makes a new Pod Worker Empty every minute, and then a divider gate to split them between assemblers set to make Pod Worker 1 and Pod Worker 2. Then I have them run past the cocoon, and then a couple of Caste Gates and a loop for them to run on if they don't get consumed immediately. I have an Old Gate on that loop so that if they do hang around, they'll run out, turn back into Pod Worker Empty and get back in line to be recharged.
I'm sure there are better ways to do it, especially once you get the Age Gate and could set up something to use up half of the Pod Wokers' lifespan doing something productive before sending them to join the cuddle pile. But what I've got seems to work and doesn't need me to constantly move ants around by hand to keep it running.
