Recycling underwhelming ?

In early/mid game, there is no reason to recycle any ants before mining ants (one small worker and one screw), all the rest is better upgraded in another cast.
But recycling mining ants grants 2 measly iron scraps and you have to find a way to stockpile them. It's totally useless for a rather expensive building.

Is there another use later or are ressources scarce in the late game ?

Resources are limited? Recycling is the only way, if I'm not mistaken, of not running out of limited resources.
