Progression issue
So I started a new game today to check out the changes in the game. I was progressing fine until the game wanted me to make 5 worker ants. I got to the 4th worker ant and kept hitting the population cap and could not make my 5th. It would eventually but I would have had to wait until one of the worker ants I had made had expired and then there would have been enough population cap to make two more regular ants so I could make the 5th worker. I really didn't feel like I should have to wait around another 5 minutes or more to be able to progress.

You need to feed the queen to raise the population cap. Like, a constant flow of energy. Hint: make a tiny loop with a dispenser at the queen's mouth, where a few ants do nothing but grab energy from a stockpile elsewhere, that a bunch of other ants are stocking. So you don't waste time hauling energy around.
The way I set it up is that when Small Workers come out of the Incubators, they start running in a loop looking for paths to jobs that need to be filled. The first path out of the loop will run down and feed the Queen. They pull orbs from a Dispenser (or more than one.) The next two paths will head to the nearest flower patch where they collect orbs and throw them on a stockpile right outside the flowers. I start out with the counters set to one or two ants for each, and then start increasing it as the population goes up.

The starting Sentry ants help at first, one to feed, one to forage, one to move larva and one to gather scrap metal to make more incubators. Once there's enough Small Workers to handle it, I move all the starting Sentries to Larva duty. That way I always know where to find them if I need to basically use one to move stuff around by hand for me. I've had to restart a few times, and this works for me at least.

Thank you for the comment but my issue was not with food. The Queen is well fed the issue is I am at population cap and she can't lay another egg until one of the ants dies. The population cap in this part of the game is too low to be doing all the things the game wants you to do.

then feed her more food! it will increase her level and thus raise the pop cap.

Okay now I understand. Didn't realize you could increase the population cap by feeding her. I thought it was only through research. Thanks
