1. Exit Steam.
2. Right click Steam icon on your desktop and choose Run as administrator

See if that helps

Sometimes Steam.exe is still running so make sure to end the process in the task manager and then try again. Or restart your computer and then try running steam as admin.

You should have a file called steam_api.dll in this folder
SteamApps\common\Depth\Binaries\Win32.

If that file isn't there then your antivirus might have deleted it automatically when you installed the game.

If the file is there and you have antivirus running in the background, try disabling the antivirus and then launch steam and the game and see if it helps.

You can also try to verify game cache (with antivirus disabled) or simply download and re-install the game with antivirus disabled.

Found a solution. I found a steam_api.dll from another game and made a replacement in depth and backup. and it launched

Glad it worked out and thanks for telling us what you did to solve it.

Mmm, I wouldn't recommend this. This would indicate that your Steam Client is out of date or in beta mode making them incompatible.

everytime I start my steam it says it updates but when it starts nothing is changed. I was in beta mode but opt out and it's been doing it ever since. I've tried redownloading steam too. But it didn't work.

I'll raise this with Steam and see if there is something that needs to be done to fix this. This is a problem because as we start to use more of Steam's features such as Steam Music, having older versions of steam_api.dll would probably cause Depth to crash in the future.

Same issue with me. replacing the steam_api_dll is not working. i am already running it as admin and other games on steam runs fine.

I would double check that your Steam Client is up to date.
