divers can adapt on the fly at a cost of gold, sharks need the ability to adapt as well.
in my opinion anyway.
You have to choose a shark and stick with it, not be dying and changing sharks due to situations in maps.
While being able to change shark type mid-match would be nice, unless you lost all your evolutions / points and basically started afresh, I see no real way to balance it.
As an example, Makos are a lot weaker early on then their GW/Tiger counter parts, if you could change on the fly you could literally start as a GW, pick up a few easy kills / use him to knock out obstacles on the map, pick up Blood Rage / Blood feast and Bang, swap to Mako, you've literally bypassed the slightly weaker earlier stages of a Mako, and now have a killing machine.
Divers progress with weapons and are limited by gold, they're flexible but their options aren't always available to them. And even though they're flexible they're still bound by money, It is very easy to mass a sizable amount of money (seriously, I just unlocked the Magnet DPV, I literally don't buy any weapons past the Tranq gun, Just hoover gold for my team, it's quite fun and thrilling dodging sharks and leading them half way around the map, quite a change although probably not really how the DPV was intended to be used, to Benny-hill sharks around a map.....)
If sharks could ever switch during a round, you'd have to give them some sizable penalty, I can see the benifits in some of it (like crude, starting as a GW for the first 2 areas and then swapping to a Mako for the open areas would seriously benifit sharks on Crude... not that they're weak on that map or anything, just it would benifit them). and I can see maps where it's pretty much useless (Devils Hand, Cove).
I think if, and when, newer shark types come in, this could be something worth looking into, as it stands now though it'd be useless or stupid to balance...
