Shark shield spam.
Shark shields are too frequent; and it is really unfun playing shark when the key strength of the shark is the ability to see the divers easily, without that they're near useless, just a giant fish in a big wobbly black barrel. They really easily; and now you want to take away their eyes?

"but you can destroy them!"

Right, but the problem being all the smart divers are going to be looking right at the shark shield, plus, as the shark, you can't see anything, and you'll likely be entering a room where divers will be located in each corner of the room; a room which will probably be laced with mines, and sonar buoys. Sonar buoys and mines are tricky enough without adding this beast to the mix.

Now this would be fine if it were a one off, but when you're knocking on seven shark shields; there is a problem... the game becomes less about hunting divers, and more about destroying shark shields; and destroying shark shields is not fun.

This is also why i feel the buoys, and mines are quite a good fit; they add to the challenge, without taking away what you're actually aiming for: the diver. Instead of putting up an obstacle that has to be climbed over to get to the diver.

Personally i find the game was better without the shark shields, BUT, i'd be willing to let them stick around if they were not so frequent..

i think that they should remove the shark shield at the buy menu. and only available when you are low on tickets

You mean that shields that STEVE spams? If you are winning as sharks by 8 tickets, STEVE drops shield every 40 seconds or so. Same goes for sharks, they get extra evo points if they are 8 tickets behind. That's balancing issue so you wouldn't slaughter the other team too fast :awkward:

I really don't find the shields so bothersome, to be honest.

Maybe if you're only 1 shark - then I could see it being a bit tricky - but with two? - nah..

It's just annoying having so many shields constantly down when they didn't work for or earn them in any way, so basically, divers do badly and get to be a constant nuisance to the sharks because of it, all by just sitting under STEVE and doing nothing.

Personally, I can't stand the losing crutch, it needs to go and be forgotten about as if it never happened.

1 thing I wish the dev's would rollback is shields automatically turning themselves on and off if another is placed. The idea people can put shields down without any tactic about running them is dumb. If you put down 4 shields at once they should all run at the same time and force divers to turn them on/off.

And not to rehash an old thread but for the losing bonus, if losing bonuses are staying why use something thats much worse for a GW then a mako or tiger?

I just don't like the shields as a diver because of my metal fillings; I can always hear Casey Casum's Top 40 radio broadcasts from the 90s when I'm in a shield.

Very disturbing.

Dev pls nerf shield and add tinfoil hat as diver item!

I agree with Gameo.
Even worse when they are good divers who get the STEVE shield spam and you can't do much about it.

That is what I hate the most about it! I don't mind it too much against unexperienced players/newbies but against good players STEVE'S shark shield spamming is incredibly frusterating. I wish losing bonuses would not activate if enough players in a lobby are high levels.

I've actually won more then one game where we were down enough to have shark shields popping. It honestly feels bad knowing the only reason I won is because the game made is easier on me. Had those shark shields not popped I would never have been able to get the extra kills, extra gold, or extra time needed to mount a comeback.
I think this could be fixed if we had a counter for Shark Shield. Maybe upgrading Minesweeper to highlight consumables inside shields, or giving a "Focus" ability where if the shark stands completely still everything inside the shield is highlighted until they move.

Not a bad idea, or they could stop STEVE shield spamming every 40s maybe up it to 1m 30s?
But Focus seems a tiny bit op maybe minesweeper is better?
I once played a round on hillside and I COULDN'T SEE AT ALL! Seriously you took one shield down and another popped up, I won though.

I play as both diver and shark in equal measure. I would say more often than not, divers get stomped and stomped hard by experienced shark players. I have observed in many matches the divers not even at the 2nd point yet and they are aleady down to 10 tickets. This is not a complaint, I would say playing a diver takes a higher and different level of skill/tactics to deal with a skilled shark player. However with the new ability for sharks to spam special ability with chain attacks is making them a bit OP and I think the shields now balance that out. Too often two sharks will get a roll going and can camp the spawn area after a team wip. The frequent shields if nothing else now force sharks to back off a bit and allow the divers regain some footing.

Lets face facts. Changes like this are both good and bad. Stuff like this has happened in many gamaes as we have all seen. But, we can easily chalk this kind of change up to all the pubstompers who relentlessly demolish newb teams and fresh players. The players of lower skill who then complain about it. The Devs are trying to make it easier for more players to survive a whole game. They are trying to do what they think will be good for the majority of players who are not as skilled as some other players are and thats making the skilled players upset. So now the tables have turned. The good players, both divers ad sharks alike, are generally upset ad frustrated over a mechanic.

If these sort of changes keep up, we will all just get more free stuff that will make the game far too easy. Before you know it divers will have free gold at the start, sharks will have free evo points over time, STEVE will have upgradeable armor, sharks will explode like pinatas and spill gold all over the ocean!!! Yes thats a game reference. Deal with it! :P

Then, when the game has gotten far too easy, it will get very boring for anyone who does make the effort. This is just aother step towards the game dying out.

The gaming world these days is no different than what we all deal with in the real world. Too many unappreciative newbies and youngsters who want a free pass, and the highly skilled players disapproval of the newbies being spoon fed by the devs.

But lets not forget, that the indie game scene relys heavily on its community for some of their ideas, all or most of their funding more so than big name companies like EA etc.




Back to the original topic.

IMHO STEVEs auto dropped shield should be only 1 free shield at each safe room after you get below that specific ticket total. Should probably have a shorter durartion too if it doesn't already.
