I already posted in anoter topic like this saying this exact same thing, I started playing Depth and it was the same thing for me, I would win games agains other new players at the time but get completely rekt by just one high level in my game, now depending on the enemy team I can solo carry a full lvl 100 diver team (yes there is a wide range of skill in the level 100 bracket but you get the point). The only reason I can do this is because for every time a single high level won against me when I was new I chose to keep playing and git gud.
In my opinion this is the symptom of these newer games that hold your hand and even when you lose the screen says something like "atleast you tried". Older games like Half-Life for example didn't do this, you could save the game with low hp and then good luck beating the next area. My point is, people should play the game because they like the game not because they are winning or getting placebo rewards like level up.
TL;DR people should play games because they like it not because of wins or item/level rewards.
Yeah. It's the same on any other competitive game - especially assymetrical ones that require skill like this one does. I had a look on the Dead by Daylight community hub the other day (what a cesspool that is) and saw so many threads about veterans stomping free week players and when someone suggests a change or nerf they get replies like "oh look, another 80 hours player who just doesn't know how to play survivor."
Nothing more to add.
Except...
I paid for that game as anyone else, so I can play the game in the way I want to.
Back then in December 2014, when I started to play, no one took my hand and I also haven't asked for.
I just play the game as I find it very entertaining and I don't bother about the outcome.
And I got raped A LOT and still have pretty mixed outcome, which is fine. It keeps the game interesting.
What I bother are people, who tell others how they should play.
But I just take it as their opinions, which I don't have to share.
No offense.
I do go easy when I don't have quests, and I used to give tips and try to help but people either don't respond at all or pre-emptively act like a toxic ♥♥♥♥ so I have no sympathy for them.
I also don't expect or have had people hold my hand when I'm new to a game. It might sound meme-y but it's literally a git gud situation when starting to play a skill-based multiplayer game.
And that's why the curbstomping happens so frequently, because people tries to help and what do they get in return? BS... So they'll have to either adapt to the game and it's difficulty or accept they should find another hobby that isn't gaming...
OP I define your profile pic as delicious.
I am close to a sugar shock just because of looking at it.
In addition,
yeah this is OT either, but I already said everything I had to say in my first two posts. ^^
It's easy to understand, but what you think is the most logical thing to do doesn't work in actual practice. Lots of us tried going easy on new players, many still do. Did it ever help? Not really. Back in the day there were a lot of new players that came in to the game and a lot of veterans were very vocal about going easy on them because we had a huge fresh playerbase so most of us went super easy on people. Not to mention that with over few thousands playerbase that we had it was extremely rare to be queued against a veteran for any new player. How did it turn out? The community still went down to 150-300 in just few months. So who do we blame?
People need to understand one thing instead of blaming veterans - new players tends to leave the game anyway and not because they were killed by more skilled players. They leave because that's just the order of things, not every player will be instantly hooked to Depth taking into account how many games there are out there and the nature of the highly skill based game like Depth is appealing to very low % of players. People who will want to stick with the game will stick to the game regardless of what vetarans do, mostly because they understand the concept of skill based games with small community and they don't mind. They stay here for the fun, challanging gameplay and/or community because that's what is appealing to them.
