Ending 32-bit + Direct X 9 support
We've been looking at this option for a long time as it's really the only way forward to not only looking at resolving some of the hardware performance issues but allowing us to adopt newer methods to improve visual quality.

We've looked at the Steam hardware survey and thus far it looks like an increasingly small number of Depth owners are still using a 32-bit OS and or a Direct X 9 / 10 only capable card.

Thus, I want to ask, would you be affected by Depth switching to 64-bit + DirectX 11 only? If we make the switch, there would be no going back and we simply can't support both options.

HDR Support? :) Please?

Maybe some RTX as well? Eh? :thumb:
Your comments made me think...

Imagine DC announcing Depth for consoles with a physical retail release via Deep Silver, cross-play to grow and nurture the community and so forth! :)

*one can dream*

Indeed, my friend. Indeed...

Can't think of better things for the game

When are you going to start work on switching to 64-bit and dx11?

Soooo I'm just gunna put this here. Maneater was recently released on Steam and the Epic store, here something I was able to pull out of the article. Wikipedia - Development - "The game is being developed by Blindside Interactive alongside publisher Tripwire Interactive.[9] The game's production is led by Alex Quick, who worked on the competitive multiplayer game Depth in which players assume control of either a shark or a diver as they combat each other.[10] Initially envisioned as an expansion for Depth, the title became a standalone product after members of the development team splintered off and worked on a single-player experience that builds on the gameplay systems established by Depth." So I guess my point to this is, how we doing on that remake folks? I've noticed some talent has moved on, will/can we still be expecting a remake/remaster? -Amend/Pulled Back* after doing some research, cheers on making it an easy split, I do see I only now clued into the post made back in 2017 by CatBaby. Good to see you guys still turned to be supportive. I just got jealous for a second and thought my favorite game wasn't going to get the attention it's long deserved

If memory serves the devs stated they tried to get a publisher for depth 2 but we're unable to due to depths limited financial success.

To me taking the time to update depth (engine) tells me they are in fact doubling down on what they have now.

Also man-eater isn't on steam yet, they went to epic. I believe they have to release on steam within a month of the epic release under steams new policy, assuming they are enforcing it, or it could get pulled from steam.

ManEater is coming to Steam in 2021 as comfirmed by Tripwire a few weeks ago. Tripwire was going to pull the store page off Steam due to backlash from the anti-Epic cult but Valve said to keep the game on Steam because they like it and wanr Steam users to play it. Guess you couod say that month thing doesn't apply to all games and that's smart considering how successful ManEater is on consoles right now.

Dude, that may be the cover story, that they "like" the game, but obviously they made some kind of deal with Tripwire and are interested in keeping the business partnership in the long term, it is about the money, not about what some people in Seattle like to play.

Probably but the point is that the month limit thing doesn't really exist. With how successful ManEater has been, it's a no-brainer to have it available on Steam.

Depth has enjoyed really good success as an independently made game. It's all relative. Depth has sold over 1.4 million copies. Not a lot of indie games do those kinds of sales numbers.

The problem is that investors and publishers want to see a 10x to 20x return on anything they do. That might sound silly to you and me, but the reality is that these guys often bet on ten to twenty projects and they expect more than 75% of them to fail. However, if they have one or two successes that match the above, then they know they can cover all of their other investments that they've made.

The people outside of Digital Confectioners left to form Blindside, about three people at the time, that continued the work on Maneater. Everyone within Digital Confectioners stayed at Digital Confectioners.

So is this ever gonna happen now?
It's been almost 6 months or so and nothing has changed. The performance of the game only has randomly degraded to the point where even a 3950X and a 2080 Ti would not run it smoothly (not my current rig anymore, but it's still plenty for this).

DX11 as well as various balance changes are still LONG overdue and even your core community is falling apart now.

To be clear here; would a "GoFund Me" for Depth 2, reach say "X" amount, would you folks be able to make it not only a priority but more than just an idea? I know I speak for not only myself but for every other fan that has come to love this game, we as the community just want to know here, what can we do for you to continue to provide content for us and really keep moving it forward most importantly. Many thanks and much love to the continued efforts from the Depth development community.

What can we do? The answer is simple...

Don't mention the name "Depth" instead just tell people that there a dev wants to make a new multiplayer shark game, tell them that these guys knew the person who came up with ManEater. We should do what we can to let the devs know that this new game should be avaialable to all, meaning PS5 and Xbox Series X.

When we look at ManEater's phenomenal success, none of it had to do with the fact that Alex made Depth. In fact, 99% of people who have heard of or played ManEater never played of Depth. So, no need to mention it's exostence if a kickstarter is made for a new game.

I don't think it was very successful when it had to go to EGS.
They are already paid by Epic Games. They got everything covered. In a year they probably crawl back to Steam to leech off the majority. That's how every EGS exclusive goes.

The only problem here is that DiCo is VERY slow with fixing performance issues and fixing simple balance errors that have existed for years.
The change to spawn protection...how long did that take? Over 6 years? The DPV spawn protection has been abused for so long.
And there's still so many things to fix, including AAP and item abuse which is nothing but editing a fine lines to change values. Ideally items would see a whole overhaul to make spamming them a hassle (e.g. supply kits only, so you cannot carry 2 and 3 of an item and throw them out like candy, or shark shields having a time limit between uses so you cannot cover an entire escort).
There's just so much to do still.
