Happily pay a reasonable one off fee for software I use, but I'm not going to be nickle and dimed by any developer or publisher for eternity no matter how much I like the company or their products.
There has to be a better way that works for everyone. This will potentially cost you more money in the long run imho.
(I've abandoned so many products and companies over the years because of this kind of thing. Adobe products haven't seen an install on any of my machines since they pulled this stunt.)
If you need money you should search for other options. With a scheme like this you'll inevitably cause people to either develop free alternatives or use competing products instead.
This doesn't offer enough to warrant a subscription service. the subscription model works 'fine' for multiplayer games because they are.. *a game*. This isn't a game with hours and hours of content. Now, I can understand for commercial use (streamers, etc) who are making income using this. But for the general person who just wants to mess around with this... It's not gonna jive with people who already own Facerig.
I was gonna upgrade, but this is a deal-breaker for me.
It's a shame to see greed has taken over, I am just going to keep using the original FaceRig program
Avatar and prop files from FaceRig are not compatible with Animaze. Your Facerig avatar files do not ‘carry over’ to Facerig."
So...any avatar you've got access to in FaceRig won't work in Animaze regardless, unless the developers re-made them inside Animaze.
In order to get your own avatar to work inside Animaze, not only do you have to re-rig/update the avatar with their specific engine, but then you have to pay *them* to import it into their software.
This is the biggest downside. A software that's "free to use" shouldn't require me to stop what I'm doing every hour and a half to "refresh" it just to get it working again.
Sure, if a streamer is easily pulling in over $500 a month to require the commercial license, they might not even notice the small dent for subscription (unless they're already living payout to payout), but as it is for the "free" version...I feel the time limit needs to be done away with. The subscription could be given extra perks (ie props, special props, special animations or filters) so people who want "more" out of it can get more.
I myself was really looking forward to transitioning from FaceRig to Animaze until I saw that the free version was time-limited-per-session. This text from their news post needs to actually hold its weight:
"The free version of Animaze allows anyone who’s interested to use awesome avatars without ever having to spend a dollar. For advanced users, our subscriptions provide great additional features that make Animaze even more powerful and fun."
