We do not want to interfere at all with anyone’s creativity but when it comes to creating a fan-art avatar either 2D and 3D as an independent artist, is best that you are aware of the legal aspect, especially if you plan to sell your services or set up a Patreon for commissioning such avatars. Since we are not lawyers, we cannot give you legal counsel on this matter but in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKBsTUjd910 you will find a LOT of information on the subject given by an actual lawyer with a lot of experience on copyright law.
It is up to you when you decide to make a fan-art 2D/3D model (or when you decide to offer that as a paid service) to find out relevant information regarding if it’s permitted or not.
