How does the studio version compare to Faceware?
Hi there. I'm looking for a nice facial mocap system, Facerig looks quite interesting but would like to know how it compares to Faceware? I want to buy it asap but need to know how it holds up to real life characters. Any help would be appreciated as I don't see this anywhere and I can't draw conclusions myself.

Hello!

I should start by saying that FaceRig started as an application meant to enable anyone to embody fantastic digital characters via real time expression tracking form a regular webcam, meaning that it was made with the casual, home user in mind, streamers, YouTubers and professional artists. Naturally, prices will be different between the two applications (FaceRig and Faceware). Adding to this, we wanted to allow anyone, any artist to bring their own creations in FaceRig and have FaceRig work with any software that accepts web-cam input (Skype, Discord, OBS, Omeagle et cetera). We did not start with high profile game studios in mind. We didn't want avatar based interaction with face expression to only be available within a walled garden like SOEmote or similar endeavors.

We also offer a wide array of high quality CGI avatars (rendered on PC and mobile), ranging from animals to humans and fantastic beings like orcs, dragons, so you can find diversity here.

FaceRig Studio also supports the Perception Neuron mo-cap suit, which allows for fully body tracking of the avatar, not just the face. This version also allows users to export animations as .fbx that can, then, be imported into 3D modeling software so to facilitate the easier creation of 3D models.

Over the years, FaceRig has been used in many fields, such as education, marketing, entertainment, even people from the health sector, proving that an affordable and easy to use mo-cap software has unlimited possibilities.

Good and professional question! I thank you for that. One more question, is it viable to use the studio version for games running on Unreal Engine? If so, I'll definitely go ahead with the purchase, as we're in need of a facial mocap system. :) Thanks again.

How do you mean "use the studio version for games running on Unreal Engine? What would your use-case be here?

Meaning can I use the facial mocap data in Unreal Engine on models from the studio version of Facerig?

FaceRig Studio does have the ability of exporting animations as .FBX to be then used in 3D modelling software, so this use-case would be achievable, yes.
