FaceRig

View Stats:
For those seeing a BLACK SCREEN/FEED instead of the FaceRig cam feed
If you are experiencing this issue, follow these steps:

1) Make sure you have enabled Broadcasting in FaceRig(Top menu button in the Advanced UI - you must toggle the UI to Advanced to access this)

2) Please make sure to go to the Skype options (in Video) and check that you are using the "FaceRig Virtual Camera" (NOT the "FaceRig Virtual Cam 32/64")

3) Make sure that your FaceRig virtual camera is 1.01.1000 (check this by going to Programs and features in Control panel)

--> If you dont' see this virtual device as an option or if you have an older version, please try manually installing the driver as it means that the driver was not properly installed when FaceRig updated (perhaps you said "No" when being prompted for the install). The driver can be located inside your FaceRig\Bin\prerequisites\FaceRigVirtualCamDriver\ folder. ****Please make sure that you install the correct version for your operating system (win7 OR win8)

4) Additionally, keep in mind that if another application is grabbing the feed from the FaceRig Virtual Camera device, Skype or your desired app will not be able to access it. Make sure no other application is using the feed from the virtual device.

Because that is not your FaceRig folder. That's where settings are saved.
rightclick facerig in your libarary>properties>local files>browse local files.

This is most likely because an application is trying to access the FaceRig camera feed while another has its hold on it.
Make sure another application isn't grabbing the FaceRig virtual camera feed :) If you are using software like ManyCam or something similar, make sure it doesn't have Facerig selected as an input device.

Tiny bit of background information to go with this as to WHY:
Camera's, even virtual one's like the one FaceRig uses, have the limitation that only ONE program at a time can access it, locking out any other programs, and so giving out only a black feed. That is the entire reason that programs like manycam exist: The grab the feed from the camera and then spawn "copies" of the webcam feed, so that other programs then can use it (one program per copy of course)

If you want to find what program is using your facerig webcam, take a look here[superuser.com].

Could you please provide a screenshot of the process explorer search for the Device handle and a screenshot of the FaceRig virtual camera in your Device manager in windows (to make sure the device has been properly installed.) And we'll also need a screenshot of the process explorer search for that handle to see what is going on. It's all right here in the steps you previously followed as per FurRiffic's instructions http://superuser.com/a/623200

In addition to this, please also provide us with the VP.log so we can take a closer look. Here's how to find the log http://steamcommunity.com/app/274920/discussions/2/34096318703798146/

P.S. check which button you press on these forums and what it says below the textbox, ok? :D Though I was pretty amused to have one of our moderators reported ^^

1. Make sure that FaceRig is fully updated.
2. Make sure that FaceRig and any programs possibly using a webcam (like Skype) are shut down (for skype, make sure to ectually quit the program, and not have it just running in the background.
3. Go to <steam install folder>\steamapps\common\facerig\bin and find the four .bat files starting with uninstall (there are 8 in total) and for each one separately, right-click them and select "run as administrator" even if you are already an administrator on your PC.
4. Restart your PC
5. Make sure that all webcam-using programs are still off (aka, Skype doesn't auto-start or is shut down again)
6. Go back to the folder you were in before, and go in the sub-folder prerequisites\FaceVirtualCamDriver
7. There, right-click the .exe that fits your OS (if you have windows 10, use the windows 8 one) and select "run as administrator"
8. Now you should be able to both see and use the right webcam.

Hot question, my Virtual Cam is still dead black. Tried the process explorer on which program was using the FaceRig Virtual Cam and it says FaceRig itself is using it. I'm happy to provide screenshots.
