AMD Radeon (TM) R9 200 Series drivers & DX11
Hello.

Here is a recap of the "crash" issue affecting some of the users with AMD Radeon (TM) R9 200 Series GPU's on Dx11.

The issue, as far as we can tell, is caused by an AMD driver bug. The crash occurs on that card on Dx11 100% with these drivers http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/latest-catalyst-windows-beta.aspx

But if you use the official drivers from this link, http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%2010%20-%2064 or newer, the issue should no longer occur.

The work-around ( if for some reason you must use those beta drivers and you cannot update to the latest stable drivers provided by AMD ) is to use DX9 mode for FaceRig for these cards instead of DX11.

The render team in charge of the FUN labs engine (which is the externaly licensed engine used by FaceRig) has investigated this error and it appears that some driver versions for some of the AMD Radeon (TM) R9 200 Series GPUs return an incorrect Out Of Memory error when an ambient light texture is allocated on DX11 by the FaceRig Render module.

This is not normal as that texture is quite small, and "Out of Memory" should definitely not occur ( though it does even on 3 GB+ VRAM when no other applications are running). There' s obviously plenty of memory for this action, the "Out Of Memory" error is not correct in this case.

This does not affect other models of AMD GPU's, nVidia GPU's or integrated Intel GPU's. ( well.. pretty much any other GPU than AMD Radeon (TM) R9 200 Series is not affected by this, and should be solvable with a driver update )

* unpinning this thread since that beta driver is not as widely used nowdays*
