Using FaceRig with Skype
Steps
  • Go to Advanced UI
  • Toggle Broadcast ON
  • Go to Skype>Tools>Video
  • Select FaceRig Virtual Camera
  • Save.
Make sure you have the FaceRig Virtual Camera installed
If you are not sure about the first, first try restarting your PC, and if that doesn't work, do this:
make sure skype is closed (rightclick the icon and select QUIT)
Go to <steam install directory>\steamapps\common\FaceRig\Bin\prerequisites\FaceVirtualCamDriver
Rightclick the right installer for your system (and if you have Windows 10, use the Windows 8 one) and select run as administrator.

It's amazing what people can find out if they would only take the time to read. LOL

Whew! all of the settings SEEMED to be gone in the update to 10, but you have to run FR and enable broadcasting, THEN go to skype>settings>videosettings>Facerig virtual cam. It's still in a similar spot to 7.

Doesn't work for me. It says in skype "Can't start video. Try closing other programs that might be using your webcam." I have no other applications that could be using the camera.

Even if an app isn't using your webcam in a visible way, it might have a hold of it.
Here are the steps to determining which application isn't letting FaceRig use your webcam http://lifehacker.com/find-out-what-windows-program-is-using-your-webcam-on-w-1582372561

Alright, thanks. I'll take a look into it.

I can use facerig with skype, but I have a bigger issue.

It shows my facerig virual cam charatcter, but when I try to make a call and leave a Video message it gives me a error. Is this normal? I would like to be able to leave video messages using facerig when I leave my sons video messages.
FurRiffic Sep 17, 2015 @ 11:48pm
This is a long-standing problem with Skype itself. It seems that it has troubles with virtual webcams for video messages, and even some normal webcams don't work for it.

That said, good to make the devs aware of it, so they can pass it on to the creators of the virtual webcam, they might be able to do something about it.
One question though: what is the exact version number of skype you are using? (open skype, help, about skype)

Please make your own thread to assure visibility now and in the future.

Have you tried ALL of the solutions offered here in this thread? (making sure you install the driver for your particular operating system and don't forget to enable broadcasting)

If yes, please make a separate thread detailing your problem and providing the vp.log and dxdiag as described in the pinned post "when reporting bugs and crashes"

And some of us look & the settings still do not work. I have had this program a while now & still have yet to get it to work properly. I have a good system build with good graphics & still has not fixed this. Its funny the cam works in everything but this app.

Do you mean the FaceRig virtual webcam works in any app other than Skype or do you mean that your webcam gets picked up by all apps other than FaceRig? Just making sure I understand the issue.

If an app is having issues accessing the feed from a camera or a virtual camera, it means that (most likely) another application is holding it "hostage". To find out which application is keeping your webcam or virtual camera busy, use this guide http://lifehacker.com/find-out-what-windows-program-is-using-your-webcam-on-w-1582372561

Additionally/alternatively, if the issues you are having are with the FaceRig virtual camera, please make sure that you have the appropriate driver installed (from the location the original post names)

If all else fail, we advise you to make a separate post (new thread/discussion) detailing your problem and submitting the log files needed to troubleshoot the issue.
