Is it possible to track prerecorded videos?
And if so, are the expressions saved as a separate file to test them with different avatars?
Also, is commercial use of pre-rendered videos (of animated avatars) possible with live2d module? ie using them for video tutorials or similar.
Will also like to know if theres a way to run it under linux through wine.

Technically, yes. If you can feed video stream to the webcam, Facerig will track them as well.
You can do this with help of external software like ManyCam.
I'll leave other questions to Facerig team :)

Hello, you can also use the "Load Video as Input Source" option located in the upper bar of the Advanced UI UI in order to track prerecorded videos.

Regarding the commercial aspect of the Live2D avatars, you'd need permission from the rightful owners of the Live2D avatar you want to use in your videos.

Lastly, we have not tried to run FaceRig on Linux through a virtual machine so we can't say if it will work or not.

just one more: so, if i own and or make a live2d character i can legally use the animations for commercial use as long as they arent live video in a public event?

thanks, again.

"pay-walled" content made with facerig is (generally) not allowed with facerig classic nor pro, only content that can be seen in some way without paying is (so live-streams or youtube videos, but not youtubeRED for example)

I think the grey border-line would that they are first private and then becomes public after a reasonable amount of time (and that being noted for the private video as well), but don't quote me on that since I'm not part of the facerig dev-team.
Also, depending on how much money you make with those video's decides if you need classic, pro or higher (classic <500$/month with the content, pro for individuals / small groups above that amount, higher for larger companies, for which you need to contact holotech directly)

but if i made a youtube vdeo to include ads, wouldnt that be the same as youtube red in that both are for profit, even if youtube red is exclusive for suscribers?

Also, what im asking is about using the videos made with facerig without any reference to facerig: ie without their models, but using the live2d module to export the animation using facerig only for tracking prerecorded videos (not sure if they would be for youtube, but i want to know so i can avoid needing to pay extra from missusing the software with the basic license or something like that).

No, that is not the same, youtube red REQUIRES a payment to be able to watch the video, advertisements are to the side of free to watch video's (and people using adblockers don't even see the adds)
For advertisements you fall back into the $500/month rule for classic or pro (for the video's containing facerig)

Since what you are looking for is not a "general" use-case, I still think it is best to contact Holotech Studios directly to see what license you need (or wait for one of the devs to answer here ;) ).

afaik, if you are using ads, you are making profit, and from a legal point of view, i dont think they care what type of paywall or method you use to make profit through the videos, if you are doing business with them (ie getting money). They, in their terms of use, do include a very specific amount of profit for people earning through ads, patreon or whatever, to take extra money for anyone who manages to make a big or viral video with a licensed character (because, most of them are only intended as toys for video chats, and sometimes entertainment in conventions or something like that).

My question isnt about that, but that if it would still count as related to their brand and terms if i use an animation rendered through the live2d module with a character i own, and export a video with such animations that only used facerig as tracking + animation method (ie, not for live use). if using an exported animation for profit (ie, including ads in it, or whatever else) with my own copyrighted character using the live2d module isnt allowed then i would need to work in something else. it would be a shame, since i havent seen many youtube channels using facerig or live2d, unless its a single show doing silly faces, and forgetting about it, and apart from youtube, i also havent seen it used elsewhere: i think most people feel the "pro license" is too restrictive or maybe that facerig is only a very expensive toy. i think it could be a usefull tool, as long as the pro license can be avoided.

i wouldnt do live content, or at least im not interested in using facerig for live content: only as animation tool for digital characters. I have seen there are other ways to animate live2d, but the seem slower and more cumbersome that just exporting the actions of an actor. if paying extra isnt in the way, then it would be a great alternative to do things like tutorial videos similar to those who use papercut-like animations, or maybe for small events in visual novels, or something else i can imagine right now.

To see if I got it right, you want to use the Live2D model you've created, in your YouTube videos, but you're unsure of which license to buy or what do they mean in terms of commercialization?

The Pro license is not needed only if the videos you make are used privately, at home, or if the commercial aspect is not significant (less than $500 a month in revenue). However, if your videos made with FaceRig are public and uploaded on platforms such as YouTube or Twitch are earning you more than $500 a month in revenue, then you'll need the FaceRig Pro upgrade.

I'm unsure what you mean by this, since it is clear that FaceRig would be used in the context you provided, even if it's your very own Live2D avatar to which you hold the right to use.

Regarding the profit based on ads and the profit made from subscribers to YouTube Red, it would vary greatly, since ads are based on the number of views and the revenue from the subscribers is based on the subscription's price, which is $11.99 - so it would be greater than $500 per month and that's why, in this use-case, FaceRig Studio - Personal would be needed.

Furthermore, this information is found on the description of FaceRig, the FaceRig Pro DLC and the Live2D Module. To summarize, monetizing strictly the Live2D model files is in no way regulated or limited by us. The only rules you have to obey are those stated by Live2D Inc. on the Live2D sample website and in their EULAs. Those rules also apply to the provided Live2D avatar samples (bundled with FaceRig Live2D Module), and to new content that you create using the Live2D Cubism Editor.

However, monetizing the FaceRig video output that features Live2D content (video files, video streams/feeds, screenshots etc) is subject to both sets of rules and EULA's, (both FaceRig AND Live2D).

You can find the commercial use limitations listed here: https://store.steampowered.com/eula/274920_eula_1
