Why is murder miner showing up as a PUA?
Windows just deleted my game's exe with the warning PUA:Win32/CoinMiner

file: E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MurderMiners\Murder Miners.exe

Why would it show up as one in the first place?

Thanks

Hello everyone,

I have gotten a response from Microsoft so please do the following:

" Please follow the steps below to clear cached detection and obtain the latest malware definitions.

1. Open command prompt as administrator and change directory to c:\Program Files\Windows Defender
2. Run “MpCmdRun.exe -removedefinitions -dynamicsignatures”
3. Run "MpCmdRun.exe -SignatureUpdate"

Alternatively, the latest definition is available for download here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/definitions "

Or you can search "Windows Security" into the Windows 10 search bar and go to the 2nd tab called "Virus & threat protection". Under "Virus & threat protection updates" click "Check for updates" and Check for updates. (This might be little delayed. If you still run into any problems, a more updated definition can be downloaded from the method above suggested by Microsoft.

Let me know if you guys run into any other problems. I will be happy to help! 👍

Hello Snake,

It is very strange that your Window Defender is claiming that the .exe is a PUA. It might be that you have installed malware on your system and it’s registering other apps as PUA or Windows Defender made a false positive.
Anyway the best thing for you to do is to try to verify the integrity of the game files or reinstalling the game.
You can reverify the files by going to your Library, right click on Murder Miners and go to Properties, go to the Local Files tab and click on verify game files (or something similar).
If it does not work then try to reinstall the game.
Thank you for your patience.

Looks like a false positive malwarebytes anti-malware doesn't say anything about it being a potentially unwanted app, also such a quick reply thanks :) thinking of playing the game more again soon have fond memories on XBLA. you probably get asked it a lot but is the second game still a thing or are you focusing on this game? Thanks

I'm getting the same thing. Don't have time to look into it right now, though...

Detected: PUA:Win32/CoinMiner
Status: Active
file: D:\Steam Library FULL\SteamApps\common\MurderMiners\Murder Miners.exe

Just wanted to throw in that I have had the issue come up too upon booting my PC up. This kind of thing always gives me anxiety, so this'll stay on my mind all day. :PatchouliKnowledge:

Loaded Steam, game had an update...once done Window Defender did the same thing

Detected: PUA:Win32/CoinMiner
Status: Active

Probably a false positive but I've deleted the game for now to be on the safe side

Coming to report the same thing, I just updated the game today and Windows Defender detected it as the same.
Perhaps we should report it to Microsoft to remove this false-positive.

Even though the game launches now, Windows defender still detects it as a threat.
