Happy nothing in there now uses it (well, this isn't confirmed, but I'm going to assume you aren't just omitting that) but as you're not ruling it out going forward, I don't see how this solves anything. It isn't ethical, and your circumstances don't make it ethical.
If this is what they mean when people talk about chronically online, I don't know what to tell you. Feel free to be mad I guess? I posted this because some people care about the use of AI, and you guys just went unhinged. I even stated this wasn't an advocation against the game several times, y'all just want to make ♥♥♥♥ up to be mad about at this point.
The matter has been clarified. You should mark one of the devs' posts as the answer to avoid further discussion/confusion.
At least the Devs could argue with good answers, if it would be a serious issue.
I find it very unlikely any stolen art is in those paintings, because that would be so stupidly pointless. The purpose of AI, and art theft, and thus AI art theft, is to cut corners and save time. So, if they were using it, it'd be obvious on every asset in the entire game especially the more detailed ones - not these irrelevant paintings most players won't even notice. Nobody steals art just to hide that art away and fret "Oh man, I wonder if the great detectives on the Steam community forums will notice..."
It's likely that this game, and every game from here on out, uses some kind of AI assistance since that is omnipresent in all modern tools and this caliber of game can't be made any other way. Most of this "AI" is not based on scraping crowd-sourced sample data and isn't that different in concept or ethics from generating a lens flare in Photoshop or a wave in Audacity. But even if debating AI in regards to art was relevant, the performative iconoclasm presented in this topic by twelve year old popinjays isn't worth addressing in detail. Long ago, before AI was a thing, stupid kids directly stole existing pieces of art and tried to justify it with delusional ad hocs, while failing to hide (and "privately" freely admitting if not boasting) that they were psychopaths jealous of artists, trying to lash out and harm as much of humanity as possible. Now we see their children, playing at the same vengeance fantasy courtesy of AI, because the children of pigs can only be pigs.
AI creates illustrations, not art. Whoever does not understand the overlaps and differences between the two has nothing to contribute to this discussion.
This became oddly personal out of nowhere, friend
Thank you, I am new to the steam forum system. I'll see if I can figure this out.
Not intending this as an attack or anything, just putting it out there as food for thought...
While AI art seems to be a major concern on the net for people that either create art themselves or dislike that humans are being taken out of the equation, are you really living true to your views?
If you use a smart phone, home assistant, fast lane/self service/quick checkout, customer support portals (without fighting to speak to an actual human), phone based customer services (without asking to speak to a human), or app based food ordering service, then you are already supporting AI and devaluing human employment... hating on AI art seems a bit of a moot point in comparisons to just how many jobs have been lost in the more common walks of everyday life.
Humans are unfortunately selfish and lazy on large... if it makes their life easier and they aren't faced with the consequences such as losing their jobs to software or machines, then the world is A-OK in there eyes.
If people had the same passion for actually solving worldly issues as they do for football, food, or porn, the world might be a better place... with less problems, plus better football, food, and porn.
Not sure if this has been answered, but it seems people are more upset with the inaccuracy of the original topic.
Can completely understand the motivation to point something out if it is in the name of transparency, public information, and standing against misinformation, but as it's come to light and from my own eyes, there hasn't been any "Typical" AI art used in the game, and by typical I mean the type that upsets artists the most, the art thievery kind.
As I'm sure others will have said by now, most art workflows these days now involve AI tools, whether that be filters, image manipulation, layer control, or full image creation.
It's pretty much unavoidable by this point.
Heck people are going to struggle hard if this upsets them, given AIs like ChatGPT are already handling customer services of most games now, and are being integrated into in game NPCs as we speak.
Haha, well given the fact that university education has been reduced to a money making racket, I'm pretty certain the only real requirements are to pay the university and be there for the allotted time... aka they hand degrees out to anyone.
I'm sure many will agree that it costs a fortune and you basically have to teach yourself.
In my experience there aren't many people who truly understand the material they've covered in university either, and often blindly follow the processes they've picked up.
Really people should be able to understand what the purpose of each step of a process or technique is, and in turn be able to apply it when necessary.
Heard some teachers the other day laughing at a guy talking about wild plants being used to draw up nutrients in soil... was a bit naive the way he was explaining it, but he was scientifically correct in how the plants roots were using translocation and as a byproduct were increasing nutrient availability in the upper surface/top soil levels.
Watching numerous "experts" on these restoration shows, any you see them blagging their way through each repair, blindly following steps and hoping it turns out right, or rigidly sticking to tools they think they need to be using for the job, rather than what would be best for it.
A mate works with a girl in an IT department with a computer science degree who thinks dinosaurs are made up, and there was a medical research scientist on a dating app that shared the same view... You'd think that because they have science based degrees (PhD in the researchers case) they would understand science, and be able to relate to how that has been applied to fossils to verify their blatant authenticity... alas no.
Doesn't beat hearing a person with a degree say they don't believe in global warming because it's always raining... I mean it's not like a warmer planet means warmer seas, which means more evaporation, and thus more frigging rain. But you know, who cares about actual science when a degree apparently gives any idiot the licence to spout nonsense with conviction regardless of whether their degree is even relevant to the topic or not.
Or... hearing people wrestle with the recent Aurora Borealis... "How can it be the sun when it happens at night???" Herpty derp.
And have we all forgotten that 90% of people had no clue how to wash their hands when the pandemic hit... I mean they had to make videos and public announcements on what it was and how to do it for Pete's sake haha.
It's pretty alarming how dumb the allegedly educated are... now excuse me as I return to my safe place where there are no dumb people *rocks back and forth* haha
Mmm and what country are those people from?
