Much like multiplayer, I think the Wizards updated their opinion on modding tools to a "maybe, after everything else is finished". I'll have to look back through the threads to be certain, though, so don't mistake that for an official statement.
Update! This was the best I could find:
And yeah, thats the impression I got too, if they do it then great, if not no worries. They're doing a fantastic job as it is.
Darkwood and Amnesia are just different gameplay styles. Amnesia values atmospheric imersion more, that is all. Why are you derailing the dicussion with your obnoxious opinions about a game that was just marginally mentioned either way?
Because it was humorous and true; most players would agree that Amnesia does often force the player to stop advancing and instead hide from a threat until it leaves.
I'd argue that DarkWood is more atmospheric.
Why are you making an off-topic comment and bumping an old thread without contributing to the original topic at all? I at least addressed it and provided relevant information after my joke.
waitasec. after poking around in the files, i notice the game is made in unity. lack of modding tools then breaks down to three major reasons i can think of.
1. devs license with unity does not permit such tools. making and distributing such tools may constitute "reverse engineering" that violates whatever license the dev purchased.
2. as the game is unity, it does not make a lot of sense to make tools to do what you already use the unity API for.
3. (least likely, from my own research) devs lack the ability to make such tools, being limited to combining pre-purchased elements from the unity store exlusivly in the unity API.
It's been done, and this was months ago. I see that this is an old thread, but I feel like bringing this up might spark the interest for others to maybe start doing it. This merely shows that it's possible, at least in terms of hex editing. I wonder if the devs would ever make a modding tool for it. It would breathe new life into their game. I assume with the long break since their last update, the game is now "Finished".
