The devs have a list of in-game objects which can currently not be interacted with (in 1.4) when using controller.. https://steamcommunity.com/app/274520/discussions/1/3117022079217458843/
(there are probably a lot more to be found throughout chapter 1 & 2) ..they have patched most of these so far (tractors, woodpiles, etc.) but there are still some things (like the tank wrecks in area 2) which are proving difficult to fix.
It's possible you've found a new one in the basement (I haven't tested old woods or the basement yet, I'm waiting on some other fixes before testing the rest of the chapter). If it's an object that cannot be interacted with when using either input (mouse or controller) then it probably isn't a bug.
(the 2 different locations for the key spawn isn't a bug though.. https://darkwood.fandom.com/wiki/Church_Basement )
I wonder why it's proving difficult to register the tanks as containers.
Yep, they have a lot of good loot!
Maybe something to do with procedural generation/spawn points.
Edit: Also, I was able to search the wardrobe in the church with the controller just now, too. Maybe they fixed that? Or maybe the bug only occurs when the black chomper kills you.
It seems on new posts, MazyRun sends a link to an old discussion covering the issue. Are the devs done with the game? (Nothing wrong with that, just want to make sure)
