First Locked Thing

Just got out of the tutorial. Doing fine. I understand the game. I can't seem to get the picklock I crafted to work. I equip it. I right click and then left click. I try EVERY combination of keys previously used for interactions. Using a bandage took me 2seconds.

I don't understand how to use this. I just get the same message that I should craft a lockpick. I did that -_-.

Left-click and hold on a target to open up the extended menu. You don't need the lockpick equipped.
