Are the woods perhaps a bit too dark?
To start with, please don't misunderstand that I would not enjoy the game, I think it has a very nice art style and the general atmosphere feels like what I was expecting when I joined the Indiegogo train.

However, something that came to my mind is that sometimes the character's field of vision feels very dim even during the supposed daylight time. So it at least feels hard to tell if it is night or day. Perhaps that would become clearer while playing more? Also, some of the paths and so on in the forest are a bit difficult to recognize from the generally..dark forest atmosphere. :)

Also another perhaps a bit silly question: where is the well the Wolfman is speaking about? I looked near and far from my hideout and still was unable to figure out where it is...sorry for dumbness.

So just something to think about. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing that the map is dark because well duh, it's Darkwood for a reason. But it would be nice if day and night were more distinguishable of each other. :) Or there could be like you know...a line which says "The sun is coming up, it's finally dawn" or "The shadows are growing taller, the night time is here" to help us separate the difference. I am sure you know what's best for the game though. :)

Hey there! Regarding the lighting issue, make sure that your gamma is properly set; mine was set waaay too dark because I thought there were only 2 squares (when there are 3!). Turn it all the way to very bright, and then slide it back to dark until it's properly "dark".

Regading the well, there should be an object that looks like a well barely a meter outside your house, surrounded by roots and other things. It will light with red light at night, when you need to drink from it.

If you have ever walked in a really dense forest, you should understand that little sunlight passes through. That's why it's dark. Or your gamma is too low. Max it out so you can play peacefully. The FOV still keeps the tension for you :)

Just look out the window near the crate, you'll see a broken well. It has lots of bugs crawling around it. Fix it and you can survive the night! :)

The game is supposed to not hold your hand and is designed to reflect how we cannot differentiate the time if we don't have a timepiece.

Here's some tips:

1) You'll be able to get a watch if you explore more <3 That will tell you the time.

2) You can guess the time from dawn, noon, sunset and dusk by the sky colour that you see from your field of vision. Every dawn, it will have a peaceful warming colour. When it's noon, the colour will be normal, like what you see in front of your eyes. When it's sunset, it will become orange. That is when your character (logically) tells you that you need to go home. Finally, when it's night time.. it's night time.

I hope that helps! If you need any other pointers, I'll try my best to help your go through your gameplay!

Thank you for fast replies guys!

I just checked my gamma settings and even with the slider pulled to the far right, I actually can't see a 3rd square. So I guess that has been properly set then.

I will try a new game save to see if I manage to find the well and so on this time and will report back here. :) I am aware that the game is supposed to be very challenging but at least knowing what kind of things to look for when trying to determine the time of the day is helpful.

make sure to put the bucket on the well before you have to drink from it or before it turns red if so you will incounter a bug that wont let you drink and you will die.

Maybe the brightness of your monitor is set to be low. Check you monitor controls if you still find the game too dark.
