Where next? (spoiler alert)

I'm kinda stuck in chapter 2.
I need an oxygen tank to get into the basement under the talkibg tree.
I found elephants and got a quest for bringing kids back. Their mother said something about granny and mushrooms but mushroom granny doesn't say a thing after that. The only option in her dialogue is showing her a cigarette pack but it seems there is a bug and she doesn't say anything about it either. Trail of flowers is leading from the elephants house to another one and I can't find a code to it's door.
I visited the radiotower and got into the locked building but there is nothing to interact with, only some stuff to examine.
I also found that...thing...in the huge lake. But I have no idea what to do with it.
Did I miss something important or encounter a bug?

You gotta take the drawing from the elephant child, it's in their room, then show it to the mushroom lady. You will have to do some stuff for her.

I have finished that part and got an oxygen tank, went to home to fuel it with the compressor and it disappeared from my inventory after fueling it... tried to go to the village into the water but nothing happens.

EDIT: I just killed that thing in the huge lake. After killing it the storm clears making it easier to find the entrance to the nearby house.

Yes, I missed those drawings, now I got and refilled the oxygen tank and successfully went to the basement.
EVEN MORE SPOILERS AHEAD
After destroying the tree and survivig the next night I'm stuck again. The old man disappeared from the village, seems like nothing new appeared too.

Yes, I have it and the description says it's filled.

I might have never got it because i had my inventory full.

If it says "I have to keep trying", you need to give it a couple more whacks. About 3 did it with a shovel. "That Thing" will die once you've made the hole big enough.

MASSIVELY SERIOUS SPOILER

You survived the retaliation from the tree, right? That's it. Walk through the husk of the tree and you end Chapter 2. You'll teleport back to the Swamp Hideout, just like when finishing Chapter 1 did the same thing.
