One time I decided to waste my first two nights in the Dry Meadow and then, on the 2nd night I got it. Which was the fastest out of all my runs so far.
the wedding itself is in the starter area, but the invitation drops in the second area?
In the case of missing it on night 2, I find the best way to trigger it again is to either stay in area 1 until it happens again, or move on to area 2 and hope it occurs there, but if it doesn't occur during the next few days (at either hideout) it can occur when you go back to hideout 1 towards the end of the chapter..
You may not have reached this point yet but in chapter 1 you are basically working towards obtaining a key for the underground tunnel which is back in area 1, therefore you are destined to return to area 1 again at some point..
This will be your opportunity to stay at hideout 1 again, after you have re-lit the oven there the game should remember that the wedding invite event is still yet to be 'completed'. Waiting for the event to trigger means spending more nights in an already completed area but you can use this time to prepare for chapter 2.
Alternatively, you could just do the wedding location in a second playthrough (after all it is only a set piece event, a non essential side quest rather than a story quest). There are actually several events like this that can be missed (or not trigger) during a single playthrough, but you will eventually experience everything in multiple playthroughs.
I think I recall a time it didn't trigger for me but that was probably because I was caught out scavenging after nightfall so didn't make it back to the hideout in time for a full night (so maybe I missed it or another event triggered and there wasn't time for the scripted event to take place). Also I think there was another time where I glitched the event by jumping out the window while the knock was happening.
Anyway, the best way to ensure that the scripted event does happen is to make sure the front door is closed and make sure you're not near it (try to avoid that little room where the front door is)..
..on night 2 I always roam the other side of the hideout waiting for the knock, chilling by the workbench is fine also but I like to walk around the parts where I know nothing spawns this gives the areas where events do spawn the max chance of triggering/spawning.. you can use this method to ensure all the rarest night events (scripted and random) do trigger within every playthrough (this way you do not miss out on the events that give good rewards, loot, mushrooms, shiny stones, etc.).
