Help editing save file to fix dumb mistake?

So I'm several days into my first real playthrough (besides a few aborted ones years ago) and I just saved up enough rep with the trader to buy either the shovel or axe head. I was meaning to get the shovel head, as I already have my workbench upgraded enough to build one, but can't even see the axe recipe yet. Well, it was late at night and I was high, and I bought the wrong one. Now I can't just sell it back without losing half the purchase price, and even though I immediately alt-F4ed after doing it, the game saved my progress.

I know the save file is in plaintext but when I looked through it I found entries for both shovel and axe pieces, so it's not as simple as just changing "axe_edge" to "shovel_head" or whatever. Can anyone tell me precisely what to change? If I can't fix this I'll likely just put the game down for another few years...

It only takes a couple nights at any hideout past the second to be able to afford the other item; just play legit and a survive a bit longer or sell some items you are not using rather than risk messing up your save file.

This would have likely also solved my issue with the Wolf trader being hostile but I don't like messing with game files just to change the game to make it how I want since that feels like the easy way out.

I did something similar, though, I bought an axe head to build an axe but then realized after that I can't even make an axe because I didn't have my station upgraded enough for the axe to show, and still have the axe head, which I spent a lot of my rep and items to get in the first place, wasting my own time on it. I gave him 3 knives for 100 rep each and then used my 150 rep from surviving the night without dying and I couldn't even make my prize. I was so sad.
